Lovers of the emotive art of poetry take note: April is National Poetry Month. Join the nation and AETN in honoring poetry and poets by tuning in to AETN Arts Fridays with “AETN Presents: On the Same Page,” featuring poets of national recognition every Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. during the month of April.

On April 6, Arkansas poet and author of the Pulitzer prized nominated collection Dirt, Jo McDougall shares her poems and showcases a glimpse of the film adaptation based on seven of her poems, Emerson County Shaping Dream. While discussing her work, she also compares the art of poetry both through text and film adaptation.

Next Friday, join former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize Winner Ted Kooser on April, 13 as he visits Arkansas to discuss his book The Poetry Home Repair Manual, accredited as a patiently encouraging guide to writing and revising poetry. Also, don’t miss Kooser discussing his Pulitzer winning poetry collection, Delights and Shadows, which is honored for humbly illuminating the extraordinary behind the ordinary.

Tag along to Fayetteville, Arkansas on April, 20 and visit with another former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins recounting his first collection of poetry The Apple that Astonished Paris (1988), which includes Collins’ most anthologized works such as “Introduction to Poetry,” “Another Reason Why I Don’t Keep a Gun in the House” and “Advice to Writers.”

Finally, to close out National Poetry Month on April 27, tune into to watch Mountain Home, Arkansas poet and National Book Award Nominee C.D. Wright discuss her volume One with Other: [a little book of her days], illustrating explosive and harrowing images of the Civil Rights Movement in Arkansas while intertwining documented texts and testaments of personal experiences among civilians and authorities.

The art of the poetry has the power to convey a message and story through tangible and emotive words, and often times, through just a few.
