3 Penny Acre
is a musical collaboration between four up-and-coming songwriters. Each member is accomplished in their own right, bringing to the band vast experience and successes from prior musical endeavors. 3 Penny Acre is, however, greater than the sum of its parts. Listeners are starting to notice the unique blend of songwriting and vocals that form the foundation of this bands Ozark inspired bluegrass/folk music.
I turned on this show to watch while paying bills. Big mistake. No bills were paid. I absolutely got sucked in to this amazing mans fluid dancing and beaming bigger than life smile and hat and movement. He blew me away…I love this music era that he was the king of, but wow, who knew? Does anyone dance like this? You could see him a little bit in Michael Jackson as he would slide across the stage and other hip hop dancers today. Give yourself a treat this Friday and take it all in. Who is Cab Calloway? A singer, dancer and bandleader, he led one of the most popular African American big bands during the jazz and swing eras of the 1930s-40s, with Harlems famous Cotton Club as his home stage. Best known for his Hi de hi de hi de ho refrain from signature song Minnie the Moocher, portrayal of Sportin Life in Porgy and Bess (1952), and role in The Blues Brothers (1980), Cab influenced countless performers, including Michael and Janet Jackson, and many of todays hip-hop artists. If you want a whirlwind tour of a gazillion great Broadway acts and Tony winners, you can get it here with In Performance at the White House A Broadway Celebration
hosted by the ever-funny Nathan Lane. The opening remarks by President Obama remind us of why the arts are so important to the culture of our society…reminding us of the day to day struggle and lives of those around us…and specifically Broadway shows, many of them remind us of our roots from other countries, cultures and families. Such talent wrapped up in a tidy hour for you on a beautiful White House stage in the East Room. If your bedtime is earlier than this, watch the entire hour online
