AETN ArkansasIDEAS hosts free "Echoes and Reflections" Workshop
Posted 26 Sep 2013 5:49pm
Used by more than 19,000 educators, "Echoes and Reflections," is designed to promote an interdisciplinary approach to teaching today's students about the Holocaust. All participants will be introduced to the course content and pedagogy through modeling active and collaborative learning. You'll also receive a complimentary copy of the "Echoes and Reflections Teacher's Resource Guide" for future reference and lesson planning.
Combining the experience and resources of three world leaders in education - the Anti-Defamation League
, University of Southern California (USC) Shoah Foundation
and Yad Vashem
- this course addresses academic standards, including Common Core State Standards, through informational texts and primary source documents. Importantly, it also goes beyond the documents to engage students' interests. Compelling visual history testimony is incorporated into ten multi-part and modular lessons, inviting your students to connect to the lives of the survivors, rescuers, liberators and other witnesses of the Holocaust. These extensive resources allow you to equip your students to study the Holocaust as a significant event in human history, to recognize the complexity of individual choices and to define the role and responsibility of the individual to uphold the principles of a democracy.
The ArkansasIDEAS "Echoes and Reflections: Effective Strategies to Teach about the Holocaust" professional development program is available to middle and high school educators at no cost to either the teacher or the school. To register for the free training, log into ArkansasIDEAS, go to "My Events" and select "Echoes and Reflections."
