"Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" Neighbor Day is Sept. 2

What's another grrr-iffic occasion to celebrate on Monday, Sept. 2? It's not just Labor Day, it's also Daniel Tiger's Neighbor Day. With a special, brand new episode at 10 a.m., Daniel starts of a series of good deeds that show even one kind action can spark many others!

So how can your child practice Daniel's model and celebrate "Neighbor Day" at home? We have a few ideas!

Get to know your neighborhood (and neighbors) better.

With your supervision and help, becoming more familiar with your area can be a great advantage. If you'd like to take small steps, you can invent your own neighborhood scavenger hunt or deliver treats to local friends and family. If you want to get social, putting a neighborhood game day (fly kites, play hopscotch or jump rope), making a neighborhood time capsule or having a potluck lunch in the park or other shared space could be a lot of fun!

Model being a good neighbor.

Take a little time out of your day to do the little things that make your neighborhood sparkle! Go on a walk together and have a contest to see who can pick up the most litter - then admire how much nicer your street looks for everyone who lives there! Or, if you know a neighbor needs help with a small task, go visit together, and see if you can help. We think it's even more fun when kiddos get to hear how much the "help-ee" appreciates their work!
