ArkansasIDEAS, ADE bring Common Core to Arkansas

Posted on 13 Dec 2011

bIf you're an Arkansas educator then you have probably heard about the Common Core State Standards Initiative. This is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers and was developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare children for college and the workforce.

To break it down, the goal of common core is to prepare children to compete in a global environment.  This begins and ends with college preparedness.  In a state where a quarter of our kids go hungry every day and poverty continues to be a cycle, education is the ticket to a better life...a major step to beat poverty.  AETN intends to serve as the vehicle to support Common Core Arkansas objectives by offering training, professional development, online streaming, one-on-one attention and more re: the content that our educators need.

The Arkansas State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards in July 2010 and are expected to be fully implemented by 2014-2015.

Approximately 50,000 Arkansas educators are in the midst of preparing for these new standards for the 500,000 Arkansas students they serve. In order to facilitate this training, ArkansasIDEAS, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Education, will be providing Common Core training content throughout the state.

If you are an educator or parent and would like to learn more about Common Core or find out about upcoming training opportunities, please visit Common Core Arkansas.

Arkansas and the American Dream

AETN continues to address poverty in the state with “A Deeper Look: The American Dream in Arkansas” and to survey the national landscape with “Dream On.” Learn more about these projects and a special night of programming after the jump.
