Artists. Art. Expression. Education: Four words that adequately summarize Art21's mission to expose, inspire, and educate the masses to today's most iconic and innovative contemporary artists. Celebrating its 10th anniversary as the leading contemporary art archive of 100 internationally recognized artists, Art21 premieres the sixth season of "Art in the Twenty-First Century" on Friday, April 13 on AETN at 6:30 p.m.

This season of "Art in the Twenty-First Century" features four episodes illuminating art and artists as powerful mechanisms in challenging convention, reinventing traditional aesthetic, and exposing historical "truth".

The sixth season premiere begins with "Change" on Friday, April 13 featuring El Anatsui, Catherine Opie, and Chinese libertarian of artistic expression, Ai Weiwei. While engaging and utilizing communities as collaborators and subjects, these revolutionary artists promote cultural, material, and aesthetic transformation through art.

Episode two "Boundaries" premieres on the following Friday, April 20 with artists David Almejd, Tabaimo, Assume Vivid Astro Focus, and Lynda Benglis. In this episode, the artists transcend the boundaries of traditionalism by using non-traditional aesthetics and subject matters, expressing art in tandem with technological innovation, and manipulating the human figure.

"History" premiering on Friday, April 27, features Glenn Ligon, Mary Reid Kelley, and Marina Abramovic. With history as their overarching subject and theme, these artists use narrative and art to expose the assumptions of historic "truth" and reveal the bridge between the past and present.

Finally, the season finale, "Balance," airs on Friday, May 4. Rackstraw Downes, Robert Mangold, and Sarah Sze express their artistic philosophy to challenge conventional perception and representation through sculptures, paintings and installations.

Inspire the artist in you to be free to express by joining Art21's "Art in the Twenty-First Century" on Arts Fridays beginning Friday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. on AETN and witness these artists eternalize their respective truths, messages, and beliefs through art.

Be sure to watch "Art in the Twenty-First Century" beginning Friday, April 13 at 9 p.m.
