AETN Arts Fridays comes to you this week with “AETN Presents:  On the Same Page” with Billy Collins as part of Poetry Month, Art in the Twenty-First Century (Art21) with “Boundaries”, and Sun Studio Sessions “Ha Ha Tonka” – a mixed bag of literature, art and culture and music to start off your weekend a little more well-rounded in the arts.

Start the night off at 6:30 p.m. and celebrate National Poetry Month with Billy Collins who served two terms as the US Poet Laureate, from 2001-2003, and was New York State Poet Laureate from 2004-2006. Collins talks about The Apple that Astonished Paris, a collection of some of his most anthologized poems, including Introduction to Poetry, Another Reason Why I Dont Keep a Gun in the House and Advice to Writers. Originally published in 1988, it was reprinted in February 2006 with a new preface by Collins in honor of this anniversary. The success of this collection over the years has made it one of the all-time best sellers for the Press.

"Boundaries" from Season 6 of "Art in the Twenty-First Century" (2012), features artists David Altmejd, Tabaimo, assume vivid astro focus, and Lynda Benglis and airs at 9 p.m.  Who and what limits our freedom of expression? In what ways do cultural differences affect our understanding of art and other forms of communication? How do an artist’s process and choice of medium affect our perception of his or her work? This episode features artists who synthesize disparate aesthetic traditions, present taboo subject matter, discover innovative uses of media, and explore the shape-shifting potential of the human figure.

Sun Studio Sessions brings the sounds of Ha Ha Tonka to AETN at 10:30 p.m.  Ultimately, what makes the Ha Ha Tonka brand of Southern rock so special is that it’s authentic, it’s effortless, and it never comes across as forced. They are masters at bringing together the traditional and the modern. They sit at the crossroads of Americana and indie, where Alabama meets Arcade Fire – shakes their hand and takes them out for a drink.

TUNE IN at 6:30 p.m. for “AETN Presents:  On the Same Page” with Billy Collins, 9 p.m. for Art21 “Boundaries” and 10:30 p.m. for Sun Studio Sessions “Ha Ha Tonka”.
