Filmed live at the Rialto Arts Center in Morrilton in 2003, this classic episode of AETN Presents: Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys is a high-spirited romp through classics from the bands heyday. Showcasing legendary western swing vocalist Leon Rausch, Grammy Award-winning lead guitarist Tommy Allsup, fiddlers Bob Boatright and Gene Gasaway, drummer Tommy Perkins, steel Guitarist Curley Hollingsworth, and Ron Willis on bass, this performance is a real treat! The set includes fan favorites, such as Faded Love, Take Me Back to Tulsa, New San Antonio Rose, and more.
At 9 p.m., Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato proves that you can go home again in the concert documentary Homecoming: The Kansas City Symphony Presents Joyce DiDonato, part of the PBS Summer Arts Festival. This stunning film, featuring a superb concert wrapped by documentary narratives, tracks DiDonatos nostalgic return to her hometown after her triumphant appearance with Placido Domingo at The Metropolitan Opera in New York. Kansas Citys extraordinary Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts provides a stunning backdrop as the production profiles the Grammy Award-winning musicians of the Kansas City Symphony, the symphonys vibrant artistic director and conductor Michael Stern, and DiDonato. Together, the star-studded group creates a grand and ambitious musical program unlike any its audience has ever seen.
