Retro "Cooking on the Wild Side" Airs Aug. 6

Posted on 06 Aug 2013

Hey, y'all. I'm John Philpot, and I'm glad to be guest blogging for AETN. As you know, "Cooking On The Wild Side" is a compilation of cooking segments extracted from "Arkansas Outdoors," a program with a 20-year-run on AETN.  Jim Holmes and I started producing "Arkansas Outdoors" in August of 1990. Before the end of the year, we had Phyllis Speer on board as cook and co-host, and we were not about to let her get away.

From that point on, the cooking segment consisted of a demonstration, a recipe and a dialogue between a highly professional cook and her sometimes comical sidekick.  As Phyllis and I became more and more comfortable with each other, the segments contained more and more baloney (not the edible kind).

Thanks to the wonderful sense of humor among viewers in Arkansas, it never made any difference.  You liked "Arkansas Outdoors" and you'll love "Cooking On The Wild Side."

We're adding some of our favorite throwback photos on the AETN Facebook page - be sure to check them out!
