UCA professor stars in August’s “Time Team America”

Posted on 24 Jul 2014

We always enjoy airing outstanding PBS programming, but it’s especially exciting when our friends and neighbors are featured! This August, join us to see Dr. Duncan McKinnon, visiting assistant professor at the University of Central Arkansas, on “Time Team America.”

On “Time Team America,” Dr. McKinnon is one of three researchers who use geophysical methods to research each of the sites the team visits this season. Meanwhile, just across campus from us at UCA, Dr. McKinnon teaches a variety of courses in anthropology, archaeology and Native American studies. An anthropological archaeologist with extensive experience and training to use geophysical technologies to investigate past, Dr. McKinnon is dedicated to engaging students (and those of us watching from home) in applying anthropological perspectives and the diversity of human experience
to real-world situations.

You can watch Dr. McKinnon practice what he preaches in our August broadcasts of the new season of “Time Team America.” The show, which is a collaboration of numerous individuals doing archaeological research, presents dynamic stories of North America’s rich and diverse history. In this season’s four-episode run, the Time Team explores a 1,500-year-old Native American village in Cortez, Colorado; a 10,000-year-old buffalo kill site in the Oklahoma panhandle; the remains of the plantation where Josiah Henson (the man whose memoir is believed to have inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin) spent his enslaved life in Bethesda, Maryland; and a large Confederate prison camp where hundreds of Union POWs perished in Jenkins County, Georgia.

“The Search for Josiah Henson” and “The Bones of Badger Hole,” will air back-to-back on Tuesday, Aug. 19, beginning at 7 p.m., and “Lost Civil War Prison”  and  “The Lost Pueblo Villages” will air back-to-back on Tuesday, Aug. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. We look forward to seeing Dr. McKinnon and his colleagues work, and hope you’ll be watching with us!
