“Westland” featured in “Tim West: In Memoriam” exhibit at M2 Gallery

Posted on 05 Jun 2014

In celebration of the extraordinary life and work of the reclusive artist Tim West, Little Rock’s M2 Gallery is exhibiting Diana Michelle Hausam’s photography and documentary short film “Westland.”

West, a longtime resident of Winslow, Ark., was as famous for his unconventional lifestyle as for his loose sketches, engravings and sculpture, which have been featured in many public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) and the Louvre.

Hausam, along with her team, captured West during the final years of his life for the short documentary “Westland,” which is featured in the AETN “LOUPE — Magnifying Arkansas Artists” collection and broadcast and will be shown as part of the PBS Online Film Festival, beginning Monday, June 16.

“Westland” stands as a tribute, memorial and unique look into the mind of Tim West and will be featured in the “Tim West: In Memoriam” exhibit at Little Rock’s M2 Gallery through Monday, June 30. Hausam’s photographs of West, which were captured during the same time period, are also featured alongside the display of West’s work.

“[Tim West]  was the most interesting and artistic man I have ever met and, shortly after meeting him, I realized that he was my subject as a photographer and filmmaker,” Hausam said. “With my photos and with the movie, I am telling his story through his physical body, environment and art.”
