The photo contest is part of AETNs Arkansas State & National Parks Initiative, which is being presented in conjunction with the latest Ken Burns documentary, The National Parks: Americas Best Idea. The film premieres Sunday, Sept. 27, only on AETN.
The photo contest is open to all ages and requires photos taken in an Arkansas park between June 1, 2009, and Sept. 23, 2009. All submissions must be made online at www.aetn.org/parks/photocontest. The photographer may determine the subject matter, with current entries ranging from park activities to wildlife to scenery.
Entries are submitted in one of three age categories 12 and under, 13-18, and 19 and over. The first place winner in each category will receive a weekend stay for four at an Arkansas State Park. Second and third place winners will receive outdoor gear from Lewis & Clark Outfitters, which is based in Rogers.
Winning photos will also be shown on AETN Sunday, Sept. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. during the live premiere event for The National Parks: Americas Best Idea. First place photographers will be invited to the AETN studios to accept their prizes during the live broadcast.
AETNs Arkansas State & National Parks Amateur Photo Contest is sponsored by Arkansas State Parks and Lewis & Clark Outfitters.
After Sept. 23, photographers are still invited to upload their photos to AETNs Arkansas Parks gallery and Story Share but will not be eligible for prizes.
