'Anne of Green Gables' marathon to air Thanksgiving Day on AETN
Posted 05 Jan 2017
The beloved and critically acclaimed films 'Anne of Green Gables' and 'Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel' return to the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) for a special Thanksgiving Day marathon on Thursday, Nov. 26, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Based on the classic 'Anne of Green Gables' novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the films star Megan Fellows, Tony Award winner Colleen Dewhurst, Richard Farnsworth and Jonathan Crombie in the life drama of endearing orphan Anne Shirley. Tracing Anne's journey from precocious, romantic child to an accomplished, confident adult, the films earned acclaim from both critics and audiences following their debuts as mini-series in the late 1980s.
'Anne of Green Gables,' introduces Anne Shirley, an orphan girl sent to an elderly brother and sister by mistake, as she charms her new home and community with fiery spirit and imagination. Set on Prince Edward Island at the turn of the 20th century, the film chronicles Anne's misadventures as she makes a bosom friend, seeks kindred spirits and enriches the lives of her guardians, Matthew and Marilla.
'Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel,' continues Anne's journeys as a young woman when she leaves Avonlea to accept a teaching position at a girls boarding school in a town dominated by a rich and belligerent family. As she makes the transition from impetuous orphan to adventurous young woman, Anne begins to re-evaluate what is important to her, making decisions that affect her family, relationships and lifelong ambitions.
Created by filmmaker Kevin Sullivan and Sullivan Entertainment, 'Anne of Green Gables' and 'Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel' brought the world of Green Gables to life in a series of films and television programs originally developed for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. 'Anne of Green Gables' premiered on PBS in 1986.
