'Desert Dreams' to air on AETN Dec. 2
Posted 05 Jan 2017
The one-hour special 'Desert Dreams: Celebrating Five Seasons in the Sonoran Desert' will air on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m.
Dispelling the notion that deserts are deserted places, 'Desert Dreams' immerses viewers in a world filled with life and beauty year-round. This film showcases 182 species of Sonoran Desert plants and animals in a five-season chronology.
'Desert Dreams' blends HD video footage and time-lapse imagery captured over 4 years with stills from the filmmaker's photographic archive compiled over three decades in a first-of-its-kind presentation of the Sonoran Desert as it changes over the course of a full year. The five seasons chronicled include: dry summer, wet summer, autumn, winter and spring.
The supporting soundtrack combines natural sounds with a kaleidoscope of flute and percussion vignettes performed by world-class musician Gary Stroutsos, featuring 29 musical instruments with "earth tones" to create a pictorial and musical tapestry without narration or people.
