'Masterpiece Classic: Upstairs Downstairs' saga continues on AETN after almost 30 years

“Upstairs Downstairs,” the acclaimed saga featuring the beloved 165 Eaton Place, will premiere on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) on Sunday, April 10, at 9 p.m. and air in three parts April 10, 17 and 24 at 9 each night.
Nearly three decades after its last episode, “Upstairs Downstairs” returns with stories of the upper-class and working class intertwining in complex and interesting ways against a backdrop of world events — in this case, the abdication crisis of Edward VIII, the growing belligerence of Hitler and Mussolini on the continent and the rise of the British Union of Fascists under Sir Oswald Mosely.
The story opens in 1936, six years after the Bellamy family moved out of 165 Eaton Place at the end of the original series. Recently inherited by young Sir Hallam Holland, the house has been long vacantm and its considerable needs are taken in hand by Hallam’s vivacious wife, Agnes.
“Upstairs Downstairs” is a coproduction of the BBC and “Masterpiece.” It was written by Heidi Thomas (“Cranford”) and produced by Nikki Wilson (“Doctor Who”).
“Masterpiece Classic” is presented by WGBH Boston and hosted by Laura Linney.
