2014 Quiz Bowl Champions

Posted on 02 May 2014

On Saturday, April 26, we were privileged to host the 2014 Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl Association (AGQBA) state championship. This year’s participants were great fun — they made us laugh, they made us gasp … and they may or may not have made us feel like we should hit the books.

In case you aren’t familiar with the academic competition, through a series of questions, quiz bowl requires players to display their knowledge of literature, math, science, history, art, music and economics. The AGQBA holds regional tournaments around the state during the month of March. Teams are assigned to a site, and a random drawing places the teams on a pairing schedule. A percentage of teams in the tournament advance to the state tournament, and the top two teams from each classification advance to the state conference finals, which we host each spring!
So, who of all these brilliant students won their divisions? The final standings were as follows:

District 1A —

Haas Hall Academy (Fayetteville) - 2014 champions

LISA Academy (North Little Rock) - 2nd place

District 2A —

Cedar Ridge (Newark) - 2014 champions

Hazen - 2nd place

District 3A —

Episcopal Collegiate (Little Rock) - 2014 champions 3A_Champs_Episcopal_Collegiate

Fountain Lake (Hot Springs) - 2nd place

District 4A —

Arkadelphia - 2014 champions

Maumelle - 2nd place

District 5A —

Watson Chapel (Pine Bluff) - 2014 champions

Morrilton - 2nd place

District 6A —

Benton — 2014 champions

Greenwood — 2nd place

District 7A —

Fort Smith Southside - 2014 champions

Cabot - 2nd place

Each first place team was awarded $3,000 in scholarship funds from the AGQBA, and each second place team received $1,500. Each district MVP also received a scholarship.

We’re proud to see these outstanding Arkansas students succeed, and are grateful for the opportunity to host and broadcast the AGQBA state championships. “Quiz Bowl” is celebration and recognition of scholarship that has been an AETN tradition since 1985.
