Independent Productions on AETN
The first questions we ask regarding any outside production offered to AETN for broadcast:
- Is it close captioned?
If not, can funds be made available to fund captioning.....about $200 per half-hour? (With funding, we can get it captioned, but we cannot air programming which is not close captioned) - Are all music, video and photo rights cleared for television broadcast?
- Who owns the copyright to the production?
- Are they willing to grant AETN broadcast rights?
- Are they able to agree to and willing to sign the broadcast agreement?
- Who funded the production?
- Did they have input into the production?
- In what format was the program produced?
- Is the program available on broadcast format?
DV Cam preferred, but we can air: Beta SP, DVCpro, SX or digi-beta If only DVD, VHS or Super VHS format is available, the program Is not acceptable for air. - What promotional items are available?
- Photos?
- Press release?
- Video Promo?
- Program Guide Listing?
- Home Video?
Once we have appropriate answers to the above questions, we ask for a preview copy – with the understanding that we may or may not be able to accept the production for air.
If we do feel the production has merit, then we would ask for the broadcast copy for technical evaluation.
If the production does not meet all requirements, then it would be turned down with a written response to the provider, stating the reasons we were unable to accept for broadcast.
If the production does meet all requirements and is accepted for broadcast, then we find an appropriate slot for it and notify the producers.
