AETN Presents: Front Row with Dale Hawkins

Image of Dale Hawkins singing and playing his guitar on stage

Hawkins performs his best known original and other favorites, like “Little Pig” and “Wildcat Tamer,” with some of Arkansas’s best musicians: Nick Devlin and Barry Poynter on guitar; Mike Nelson on bass; Jimmy Powell on drums; and Mike Heavner on keyboard. A member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Hawkins stormed onto the music scene in Northwest Louisiana in the mid-1950s. He played a major part in the creation of “swamp rock,” giving his music a harder edge than most of his contemporaries. Billboard Magazine lists the “Susie Q” album in its Top 100 most valuable albums, and The Rolling Stones credit the song as one of their favorite 15. Hawkins’ latest recording, “Back Down to Louisiana,” was inspired by a trip to his childhood home and was recognized by MOJO Magazine as No. 10 in the Americana category in their 2007 “Best of” issue.
