AETN Arts Friday Hannah Blaylock & Gotterdammerung
This AETN Arts Friday, tune in for power-packed musical specials! At 6:30 p.m., well feature a special performance by Hannah Blaylock and Lost & Found. Then, at 9 p.m., well close Great Performances at the Met Wagners Ring Cycle with a spectacular rendition of its final opera, Gotterdammerung, or The Twilight of the Gods.
Tonights episode of AETN Presents: On the Front Row With Hannah Blaylock and Lost & Found, taped live in the AETN studios before an audience of almost 200 fans, features Hannah Blaylock and Lost & Founds unique blend folk, bluegrass, gospel and country in a variety of original songs and well-known favorites. After their first public appearance at the 2003 Arkansas Acoustic Festival, the group was deemed "ready for Nashville," and they went on to win the competition and open for singer/songwriter Judy Collins who headlined on the closing night of the festival! Featured in this AETN special are: Hannah Blaylock, lead vocals; Mel Blaylock, bass guitar and harmony vocals; Steve Smith, lead guitar and harmony vocals; Dean Berner, dobro; and Cherrill Green, mandolin. The group also includes Lonnie Eason, who plays harmonica.
Rounding out this weeks musical feat at 9 p.m. is an astounding performance of Wagners Gotterdammerung by the Metropolitan Opera. The culmination of one of Western civilizations greatest masterpieces, the opera continues the intense drama as the gods slowly begin to loose their powers. Meanwhile, Brunnhilde and Siegfrieds seemingly charmed love affairs goes deeply and sadly awry, thanks to the meddling of the son of the wicked dwarf, Alberich. A fiery end for both the gods and the Walsungs is looming, but will the Rhinemaidens reclaim the ring or will the power-hungry Alberich finally launch a successful scheme?
