HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO ON THE SAME PAGE. TODAY'S BOOK IS "DREAM" WRITTEN BY SUSAN BOSAK. THIS BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED AWARD WINNING BOOK IS VERY MUCH LIKE A CHILDREN'S BOOK, AND IT IS. HOW EF, IT'S ALSO A CELEBRATION OF LIVING FOR ANYONE AT ANY AGE WHO DREAMS. IT IS FULL OF REMARKABLE ILLUSTRATIONS INSPIRING QUOTATIONS AND IT CONTINUES TO REVEAL MORE WITH EACH READING. MY CONVERSATION WITH AUTHOR SUSAN BOSAK IN JUST A MINUTE.

THANKS, SUSAN, SO MUCH FOR BEING WITH US TODAY. HEARING THIS WONDERFUL BOOK "DREAM" WHAT INSPIRED IT? LET'S START FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?

"DREAM" IS DEDICATED TO MY MOM. SHE INSPIRED THE BOOK. ONE NIGHT WE WERE HAVING ONE OF THOSE HEART TO HEART CONVERSATIONS. MY MOM'S BIG THING FROM THE TIME SHE WAS A LITTLE GIRL WAS MAKING WISHES ON STARS. OKAY? AND SHE TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE WISHES ON STARS. WE STARTED TO TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE WISHES AND DREAMS THAT SHE HAS AT 76 AREN'T THE SAME AS THE WISHES AND DREAMS THAT SHE HAD AT 46 OR 26 OR 16. AND I STARTED TO THINK, THAT WOULD BE A REALLY COOL CONCEPT FOR A BOOK. TO GO THROUGH ALL THE HOPES AND DREAMS AND HOW THEY EVOLVE THROUGH YOUR LIFETIME. SO THAT WAS THE SEED FOR THE BOOK. THEN IT GREW AND GOT BIGGER FROM THERE.

YOU DEFINITELY FOLLOWED THAT SEED. I'M GONNA TELL YOU, WHEN I READ THIS BOOK, WHEN I INITIALLY PICKED IT UP AND STARTED READING, I'M THINKING, OKAY, A CHILDREN'S BOOK. I WILL READ IT LIKE I WOULD ANY OTHER CHILDREN'S BOOK. I'M READING. ALL OF A SUDDEN I REALIZED HOW MUCH THIS BOOK PERTAINS TO MY LIFE, SO MANY OTHERS. IT TOUCHES NOT ON CHILDREN, BUT ADULTS AS WELL. AND THAT KIND OF THREW ME A LITTLE BIT. I HAVE TO BE HONEST WITH YOU. HOW OFTEN DO YOU READ A CHILDREN'S BOOK THAT ACTUALLY COULD BE A BOOK THAT YOU COULD FOLLOW, THAT COULD KIND OF SHAPE YOUR LIFE?

I WRITE WHAT I CALL BIG PEOPLE, LITTLE PEOPLE BOOKS. REALLY. I DO. THE PICTURE BOOK FORMAT FOR ME. I LOVE PICTURE BOOKS. IT'S SUCH A RICH FORMAT. YOU'VE GOT WORDS AND ART COMBINED. YOU CAN TAKE THAT SO MANY WONDERFUL KINDS OF PLACES AND ADD SO MANY KINDS OF LAYERS. AND THE BOOK IS ABOUT HOPES AND DREAMS ACROSS A LIFE TIME. FROM THE TIME YOU'RE LITTLE TO OLDER. EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO MAKING, YOU KNOW, WISHES ON STARS, TO HAVING DREAMS. BUT FOR KIDS IT'S GOING TO BE ONE THING. FOR ADULTS IT'S GOING TO BE SOMETHING ELSE.

ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.

WITH THIS SAME BOOK I GO IN AND WORK WITH THE K-2 KIDS. THEN I WORK WITH THE OLDER KIDS. I DO WORK WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. I DO ADULT LITERACY WORK. I GO INTO SENIOR CENTERS. I READ THE BOOK WITH OLDER ADULTS. THEY LOVE IT JUST AS MUCH. YOU BRING YOUR OWN SELF TO THE BOOK. AND WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR LIFE. BECAUSE EACH, YOU KNOW, TWO PAGE SPREAD IN THE BOOK TOUCHES ON A DIFFERENT PART OF YOUR LIFE. PEOPLE FEEL AN AFFINITY TO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BOOK DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY'RE AT.

LET'S GO IN HERE AND TALK ABOUT THE LAYERS. THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT LAYERS. STARTS OUT VERY CHILD-LIKE. VERY MUCH A CHILD. TAKES YOU BACK. CERTAINLY A CHILD HEARING THIS BOOK, OR READING THIS BOOK, COULD SEEM LIKE THEY'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.

IT'S VERY ACCESSIBLE AT ONE LEVEL. THE STORY TEXT IS DONE IN FREE VERSE. IT'S VERY SIMPLE AT ONE LEVEL. SO KIDS WILL GET IT. YET AS AN ADULT YOU REALIZE, WHY IS THIS WORD HERE? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? SO WE'VE GOT THE STORY TEXT THAT HAS A LOT OF LAYERS TO IT AND RELATES TO SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH DONE ABOUT HOW WE HOPE AND DREAM ACROSS OUR LIFE.

EXPLAIN THAT. SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH AND HOW WE HOPE AND DREAM. EXPLAIN WHAT YOU'RE SEEING HERE.

EACH TWO-PAGE SPREAD CAPTURES A DIFFERENT PART OF LIFE. WE HAVE A PAGE ABOUT BEING A BABY. A PAGE ABOUT BEING A CHILD. AND THE TEENAGER. ALL THE QUESTIONS AND CHOICES AND CHALLENGES. IT IS MODELLED ON ERIK ERIKSON'S BOOK SOCIAL CHALLENGES. HE LOOKED AT THE TASKS WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH AS WE GO THROUGH EACH STAGE OF LIFE. THE BOOK CULMINATES WITH OLDER ADULTHOOD. ERIK CULMINATED WITH WHAT HE CALLED GENERATIVITY. EACH OF US NEEDS TO FEEL LIKE OUR LIFE HAS HAD MEANING. THAT WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR A REASON. THAT WE'VE MADE A DIFFERENCE. AND THAT WE WANT TO GIVE BACK. THE OLDER ADULT PAGES IN THE BOOK IS ACTUALLY -- STORY IS TOLD BY A WISE OLD STAR WHO IS A GRANDPARENT FIGURE, A MENTOR FIGURE. WISE OLD STAR AT THE END OF THE BOOK IS SORT OF SHARED ALL THE LIFE WISDOM AND THEN TURNS IT OVER TO YOU, THE READER, TO START LIVING YOUR OWN DREAM.

THAT STAR STARTS AS A CHILD WITH FAVORITE COLOR BEING YELLOW.

YELLOW, THAT'S RIGHT.

THEN ENDS THE BOOK, AFTER GOING THROUGH ALL THE COLORS, IT'S BACK TO YELLOW AGAIN.

DID YOU NOTICE IT'S NOT THE SAME YELLOW? IT'S COMPLICATED. THERE'S A BRIGHT YELLOW THAT STARTS IT BUT THEN A SOFTER YELLOW THAT ENDS IT. IT'S LIKE YOU'RE BACK TO THE SAME PLACE, BUT NOT QUITE. IT REMINDS ME OF A MOVIE. WHEN YOU WATCH THE MOVIE AGAIN YOU START TO PICK UP OTHER THINGS. I HAVE READ THIS BOOK NOW TWICE. NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME I NEED TO READ IT A THIRD TIME SO I CAN FIGURE OUT THE DIFFERENT SHADES OF YELLOW. WHAT I REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT RIGHT NOW IS THE SHADE IN THE MIDDLE, WHERE THINGS BECOME A LITTLE FUZZY.

RIGHT.

BUT AS THE DAYS BECOME -- DAYS BECAME YEARS, THAT SPUN BY, MY SIMPLE BLACK AND WHITE WORLD TURNED GRAY. I'M READING THIS. I'M THINKING, THIS IS SO LIFE LIKE BECAUSE YOU START YOUR LIFE WITH ALL OF THESE DREAMS, HOPES, DESIRES, WISHES.

YULFUL EXUBERANCE AN EGO.

THEN YOU WAKE UP AND SAY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DREAMS, MY WISHES, MY DESIRES? HOW DID I LOSE SIGHT OF THOSE THINGS? THIS LOOK TAKES YOU ON THIS JOURNEY.

KIDS ARE OFTEN INTIESED TO THE BOOK WITH THE EARLY COLORFUL PAGES. RED PAGE. WITH ADULTS, THEY OFTEN COME INTO THE BOOK THROUGH THE GRAY PAGES, JUST LIKE YOU DID. BECAUSE ADULTS FEEL THAT. THEY FEEL LIKE THAT ALMOST SENSE OF LOSS. YOU'RE A CHILD. YOU THINK ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL YOUR BIRTHDAY WAS. THINK ABOUT CHRISTMAS. EVERYTHING WAS BIGGER THAN LIFE. THEN YOU BECOME AN ADULT AND YOU'RE LIKE, THAT'S GREAT.

WHAT HAPPENS IS, LIFE GETS TOUGH. REALITY OF LIFE STARTS TOT

THE COLOR OF GRAY, THE COLOR OF A DISMAL DAY. FIRST THEY CAN ALL RELATE TO A RAINY DAY. THEY CAN GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY. THEN I SAY HANDS UP, HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE HAD A REALLY BAD DAY WHERE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO GET OUT OF BED? AND THEY GET THAT? THEY GET HAVING A BAD DAY. ONE OF THE REALLY COOL THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK IS THAT WE CHOSE ALL OF THE ILLUSTRATORS FOR VERY SPECIFIC REASONS. AND NOT ON FOR THEIR ARTISTIC STORY, BUT FOR THEIR ARTISTIC STYLE, BUT FOR THEIR BACK STORY. ARTISTS THAT DID THE GRAY PAGE IS RAUL COLON. WHEN HE WAS A LITTLE BOY, HE HAD A LOT OF GRAY DAYS, A LOT OF BAD DAYS. HE HAD AS MA AS A CHILD. HE COULDN'T GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY. HE HAD TO SPEND SOMETIMES WEEKS AND DAYS IN BED. BUT WHILE HE WAS IN BED, BECAUSE HE WAS SO BORED HE HAD TO DO SOMETHING. HE ENDED UP FILLING UP NOTEBOOK AFTER NOTEBOOK WITHDRAWS. NOW AS AN ADULT, HE'S AN ARTIST, AN ILLUSTRATOR. SO I TELL KIDS, EVEN SOMETHING THAT SEEMS REALLY HARD AND SAD, IT COULD TURN OUT OKAY. KIDS GET THAT. TO THE OTHER SHADE OF YELLOW.

OTHER SHADE OF YELLOW.

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING THAT I WAS TALKING TO A FRIEND WHO GAVE THIS BOOK TO ANOTHER FRIEND WHO HAS A 9-YEAR-OLD CHILD. WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A 9-YEAR-OLD READ THIS BOOK. WE CAN'T GET THE BOOK BACK. THE CHILD HAS BEEN SO TOUCHED BY THIS BOOK. HE WON GIVE IT UP. # YOU PROBABLY SEE A LOT OF THAT. YOU GO INTO SCHOOLS. YOU TALK, WITH YOUR BOOK, YOU TALK WITH A LOT OF CHILDREN. YOU PROBABLY SEE THE SPARKLE IN THE EYE. WHEN THAT LIGHT BULB GOES ON.

ONE OF THE REALLY COOL THINGS FOR KIDS. YOU SAID YOU ONLY READ THE BOOK TWICE. EACH ILLUSTRATOR IS THERE.

I WANTED TO GET INTO THAT WITH YOU. THERE ARE 15 DIFFERENT ILLUSTRATORS. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT CHILDREN'S BOOKS. CHILDREN GET CAUGHT UP IN PICTURES. NOT THAT WE ADULTS DON'T, BUT CHILDREN LOVE THAT. IT ALLOWS THEIR IMAGINATIONS TO FLOW. I THOUGHT IT WAS INTERESTING. EACH ILLUSTRATOR PLANTED A STAR. WHAT'S THE SIGNIFICANTANCE OF THAT?

IT'S A WAY TO GET KIDS TO START TO TALK ABOUT THEIR FAW CHUR. A GRANDPARENT IS HUNTING FOR THE STAR. THEY FIND THE STAR. IDEA IS THAT THE CHILD IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE A WISH. THE NEW WISH WITH EACH STAR THAT YOU FIND. SO THIS IS THE WAY, YOU CUDDLE UP, MAYBE READING THE BOOK BEFORE BED TIME. KIDS LOVE TO LOOK FOR THE STARS AND START TO MAKE WISHES. IT'S A WAY FOR THEM TO START THINKING WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO DO WHEN I GROW UP? WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO DO? THEY CAN START IMAGINING THEIR FUTURE. ONE OF THE BEST GIFT PARENTS OR GRANDPARENT CAN GIVE A CHILD IS THE GIFT OF STARTING TO DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE AN WHAT THEIR FUTURE IS. THIS BOOK I BELIEVE INSPIRES THAT. YOU'VE DISTRACTED ME A LITTLE BIT. I AM ON PAGE 24 AND I AM TRYING TO FIND THE STAR. I'M NOT GONNA LET YOU POINT IT OUT FOR ME. THAT'S GOING TO BE A PROJECT I'LL WORK ON.

SOME OF THE STARS ARE EASY. SOME ARE TRICKY. WE DO TELL YOU AT THE END OF THE BOOK WHERE THEY ARE.

I THINK THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA. LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND. YOU ARE AN EDUCATOR. SO IT STANDS TO REASON THAT YOU WOULD CREATE A BOOK SUCH AS THIS. ONE THAT REALLY IS EDUCATIONAL. SOME CHILDREN'S BOOK, WHEN YOU THINK OF THEM, THEY'RE FUN. MOST ARE EDUCATIONAL. YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT READING. ANY TIME YOU INSPIRE A CHILD TO READ, THAT'S A GOOD THING. I THINK THIS BOOK GOES BEYOND THAT. WOULD YOU SAY?

I REALLY LIKE TO PUT LAYERS INTO MY BOOKS. I DO HAVE A BACKGROUND AS AN EDUCATOR. WHEN I'M WORKING WITH KIDS, I WANT TO GET THEM TO READ, TO EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF READING. BUT I ALSO WANT TO GET THEM TO START TO DREAM. TO THINK ABOUT THEIR LIFE, TO THINK ABOUT THEIR FUTURE, HOW THEY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. I REALLY BELIEVE KIDS ARE CAPABLE OF A LOT MORE THAN WE THINK THAT THEY ARE. AND YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE GREEN PAGE THERE WITH THE DREAM TREE. THAT'S AN ILLUSTRATION DONE BY LEO AND DIANE DILLEN. THAT'S NOT A TRADITIONAL PICTURE YOU WOULD SEE. SOME PEOPLE COME UP AND SAY, I THINK THIS IS A LITTLE TOO SCARY FOR KIDS. AND I THINK THAT'S UNDERSELLING WHAT KIDS ARE CAPABLE OF. I WAS WORKING WITH A LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS I BELIEVE IN GRADE THREE. I ASKED HER WHAT SHE SAW. AND SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE SAW THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.

OH MY GOODNESS.

THAT KID GOT WHAT THAT ILLUSTRATION IS ALL ABOUT. THE COURAGE, THE POWER, THE NOBILITY. THE ADULT WAS WORRIED, OH, THIS IS GONNA FRIGHTEN THE CHILD. BUT THE KID GOT IT. KIDS ARE A LOT MORE CAPABLE OF A LOT MORE THOUGHT THAN WE GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR. A BOOK LIKE THIS HAS SO MANY RICH LAYERS THAT CHALLENGE KIDS. ONE OF THE THINGS WE DID, WE NOT ONLY HAD THE ILLUSTRATIONS. WE NOT ON HAVE THE STORY TEXT. BUT IN THE BOTTOM CORNER WE HAVE A SERIES OF QUOTATIONS FROM FAMOUS LEADERS, PHILOSOPHERS, SCIENTISTS.

I NOTICED THAT.

KIDS, THEY'LL READ THE STORY TEXT. EVEN IF IT'S BEYOND. WE HAVE A QUOTE FROM FREDERICK NIETZSCHE. THEY SEE THAT QUOTE. THEY ARE TEMPED TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT MEANS.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO DO THAT? DID YOU REALIZE THAT WOULD BE FOR CHILDREN?

I WANTED THERE TO BE ANOTHER LAYER IN THE BOOK. I WANTED IT TO BE MORE THAN THE VOICE OF THE WISE OLD STAR NARRATOR. I WAS PUTTING OFF THE VERY POPULAR NEWTON QUOTE, IF I HAVE SEEN FURTHER IT IS BECAUSE I SHOOD ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS. I WANTED TO BRING THAT SENSE TO THE BOOK. QUOTATIONS ARE WHAT I CALL ECHOS, VOICES THROUGH TIME. REALLY FUN THING TO DO IF YOU'RE WITH A GROUP OF KIDS IS TO HAVE ONE PERSON READ THE STORY TEXT AND HAVE DIFFERENT VOICES READ ALL THE QUOTES. THERE'S A VOICE THROUGH HISTORY CHIMING IN. IT'S ANOTHER LAYER. LOOKING AT PAGE 14 AND 15, AND IT SAYS HERE, GREAT MEN AND GREAT WOMEN, SOME FAMOUS, MOST NOT. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT? I RECOGNIZE SOME.

YOU DO? DO YOU KNOW THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE FIGURE? WHEN I GO IN AND EVEN WORK WITH KIDS, CAN YOU GUESS WHICH FIGURE THEY KNOW?

NO.

WHICH ONE IS IT?

ALBERT EINSTEIN. EVEN THE LITTLE ONES. ALBERT EINSTEIN. I'M SAYING HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT? SUCH AN ICONIC FACE.

WHERE DOES THE ILLUSTRATOR COME UP WITH ALL THESE THINGS?

I WORKED WITH THE ILLUSTRATOR. I WAS LUCKY. I GOT TO WORK WITH ALL OF THESE PEOPLE. I HAD MY IDEAS. THEY BROUGHT THEIR CREATIVE ENERGY. WE WERE ABLE TO WORK THERE. LOT OF TIMES AN AUTHOR ISN'T ABLE TO WORK WITH THE ILLUSTRATOR. I WANTED VERY SPECIFIC THINGS. SO WE WENT BACK AND FOR THE. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL THE CLUB OF DREAMERS. WE WANTED A MIX OF GENDERS. WE WANTED A MIX OF DIFFERENT CULTURES. WE WANTED A DIFFERENT OF ARTISTS, SCIENTISTS, INVENTORS, PHILOSOPHERS. WE'VE GOT LEONARDO DA VIN CHI IN THE CORNER THERE, GHANDI.

HE'S THE ONE THAT TALKED TO YOU.

THE DIFFERENT PEOPLE PICK UP DIFFERENT THINGS.

THEN YOU HAVE A QUOTE HERE MARIE CURIE. SHE TALKS ABOUT IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE THE WORLD, YOU CAN JUST LOOK AT THE INDIVIDUALSING YOU HAVE TO TRY TO IMPROVE EVERYBODY AND WORK TOGETHER. I WANTED TO PLAY OFF OF THAT. ONE THING THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING IN THIS ILLUSTRATION. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NOTICED. ALL OF THE PICTURE PEOPLE ARE FAMOUS AND DEAD EXCEPT ONE PERSON IN THE CORNER. THE MAN WITH THE GLASSES UP AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER. HE'S NOT FAMOUS. HE'S NOT RICH. HE'S NOT A GENIUS. ORDINARY PERSON. HIS NAME IS HAROLD ALLEN. HE LIVES IN PHILADELPHIA. HE GOES INTO SCHOOLS AND MENTORS KIDS, HELPING THEM READ. I INCLUDED HIM AS THE ORDINARY PERSON WHO CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. 'CAUSE I WANTED THERE TO BE AN EVERY MAN BECAUSE IT GOES BACK TO THE TEXT, GREAT MEN AND GREAT WOMEN, SOME FAMOUS, MOST NOT. YOU AND I PROBABLY WON'T GO DOWN IN HISTORY BOOKS. THAT DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE NOT DOING IMPORTANT THINGS. I WANTED KIDS AND ADULTS TO BE REMINDED OF THAT.

THE NEXT PAGE, GREAT IDEAS, THE IMPOSSIBLE MADE POSSIBLE. HERE, I MEAN, MAN WALKING ON THE MOON. DIFFERENT TYPES OF THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN CREATED. ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE TO INSPIRE CHILDREN AND ADULTS, AS YOU SAY, TO THINK BIG AND TO REALIZE THAT YOU, TOO, CAN DO SOME OF THESE THINGS.

THAT'S RIGHT. THAT'S RIGHT. THINK OF A LOT OF THESE INVENTIONS. HOW THEY EEFB CHANGED THE WORLD. HOW WE THINK. HOW WE INTERACT. THE CHANGES IN THE LAST 100 YEARS OF HISTORY. HOW THE WORLD IS INVOLVED. HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS HAD SUCH A FORCE IN THAT. WE WANTED TO BRING THAT SENSE INTO THE BOOK. WHEN I LOOK AT ALL OF THESE ILLUSTRATIONS YOU HAVE IN HERE, THEY ARE JUST INCREDIBLE. THIS IS ALMOST A BOOK SO THAT YOU CAN READ AND DREAM.

YES. LOT OF PEOPLE ARE VERY TAKEN BY THE ARTWORK. WE ACTUALLY HAVE THE DREAM EXHIBIT TRAVELING TO GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. ALL OF THE ORIGINAL ART WORK FROM THE BOOK. ONE THING TO SEE IT REPRODUCED IN A BOOK. WE'VE GOT ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF ART. WE HAVE WATERCOLOR AND OIL AND CHALK AND COLLAGE AND DIGITAL. THE OTHER REALLY COOL THING ABOUT THE "DREAM" EXHIBIT IS WE HAVE ALL OF THE CONCEPT DRAFTS THAT THE ARTISTS DID AS THEY WERE CREATING THE ILLUSTRATION. SO YOU SEE NOT ON THE FINAL RESULT, BUT YOU SEE THE SKETCHES THE ARTISTS MADE TO GET TO THE FINAL RESULT. THAT GIFBS YOU A WHOLE OTHER PEEK INTO THE KREIER TIFB PROCESS.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AN INCREDIBLE BOOK. IS THERE ANYTHING OR ANY ONE PAGE THAT JUST REALLY UUUUáTáTT YOU MORE THAN ANOTHER? IT'S KIND OF HARD TO REALLY PUT THAT INTO CONTEXT PROBABLY BECAUSE THERE IS A FLOW THAT THIS BOOK TAKES. YOU KIND OF HAVE TO FOLLOW THAT FLOW. BUT I GUESS I'M JUST WONDERING IF THERE'S A PAGE THAT STANDS OUT FOR YOU MORE THAN ANY OTHER?

I REALLY LIKE THE GREEN PAGES IN THE BOOK.

EXPLAIN THE GREEN PAGES.

THE GREEN PAGES ARE SORT OF THE CULMINATION OF THE BOOK. THE SECRET OF GROWING A DREAM. THERE ARE TWO PAGES. FIRST ONE SAYS DREAMS GROW LIKE SEEDS. THEY NEED TO TAKE ROOT AND STRETCH TOWARDS THE SUN. THE SECOND ONE SAYS -- AND THIS IS COMING TO THE REALIZATION OF WHAT IT TAKES TO ACHIEVE A DREAM OR GOAL. THE OLD STAR SAID TO GROW A DREAM YOU NEED MORE THAN THE ONE I WAS. YOU NEED TO BELIEVE OF CHILDHOOD, THE DEW OF YOUTH AND THE THINK OF EXPERIENCE. THOSE THREE WORDS BELIEVE, DO, THINK, THOSE ARE POWERFUL. THE BELIEVE OF CHILDHOOD, THAT WIDE-EYED STARRY WONDER. YOU NEED TO HOLD THAT PART OF YOURSELF. HOLD ON TO THAT PART OF YOURSELF THAT'S A CHILD. YOU NEED THE DO OF YOUTH. THAT PASSION FOR LIFE. BUT YOU ALSO NEED THE THINK OF EXPERIENCE. YOU NEED THE WISDOM, LIFE EXPERIENCES. AND AS ADULTS WE CAN BRING THAT FOR YOURSELF. BUT FOR KIDS, THEY WANT TO CONNECT WITH OLDER ADULTS SO THAT THEY CAN GET SOME OF THAT LIFE WISDOM AND LIFE EXPERIENCE. THOSE WORDS, BELIEVE, DO, THINK, BASED ON SOCIAL SCIENCE. THAT'S LOOK AT HOW HUMAN BEINGS ACHIEVE GOALS AND DREAMS. YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. YOU HAVE TO TAKE ACTION. YOU HAVE TO WALK YOUR WALK. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A STEP BY STEP PLAN. THOSE THREE WORDS ARE REALLY FULL, RICH WORDS THAT, IF YOU'RE IN A CLASSROOM WORKING WITH A GROUP OF STUDENTS YOU CAN EXPLORE THEM.

I ALSO NOTICE, TOO, IT'S ALL ABOUT REAL LIFE, BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOOK WHERE IT BECOMES CLOUDY AND GRAY AND THINGS DON'T ALWAYS LOOK GREAT AND THAT SORT OF THING. IT COMES OUT. MOTIVATES YOU TO REALIZE THAT, YOU KNOW, THERE WILL BE PEOPLE WHO WILL SAY NO, YOU CAN'T DREAM THAT DREAM.

THAT'S RIGHT.

AND NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT. IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE DEFINITELY NEED TO TELL CHILDREN, BUT ADULTS NEED TO BE REMINDED, TOO. WE'RE THE ONES THAT HAVE HEARD FROM PEOPLE SAYING, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU CAN DO THAT SNP

LOT OF TIMES WHEN I'M WORKING WITH ADULTS, THEY'VE LOST HOPE. THEY'VE LOST TOUCH WITH THE DREAMER IN THEMSELVES. THAT'S ONE OF THE MESSAGES IN THE BOOK IS A HOPEFUL MESSAGE. WHEN I'M TALKING ABOUT HOPE, THE DEFINITION IS FROM VACLAV HAVEL. IT'S NOT A CONVICTION THAT EVERYTHING WILL TURN OUT RIGHT, BUT A CONVICTION THAT SOMETHING IS RIGHT. SO YOU STAND UP FOR IT. YOU WORK TOWARD IT. SOMETIMES AS ADULTS WE NEED TO REMEMBER, IF WE DO HAVE A DREAM THAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO US, KEEP GOING. IT MAY NOT TURN OUT EXACTLY AS YOU PLANNED, BUT YOU WILL GET SOMEWHERE. CERTAINLY FARTHER THAN IF YOU DIDN'T TRY ANYTHING.

THEY ARE THE HOPES THAT WHISPER IN YOUR EAR IN THE QUIET MOMENT AT TWILIGHT JUST AS THE STARS ARE COMING OUT. THEY ARE THE IDEAS, PERHAPS INSPIRED BY THE GRAND ACHIEVEMENTS OF OTHERS, THE PERSISTENTLY TUG ON YOUR ARM IN THE SUNLIGHT OF DAY AND THEY SHAPE YOUR LIFE.

THEY DO.

THEY ARE DREAMS. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DREAMS. WHEN I READ THIS, FOR ME, IT'S THE DREAM THE WAKING DREAM.

YES.

THE DAY DREAMS.

YES.

IT'S DREAMS IN A FULLER SENSE. LOT OF PEOPLE THINK DREAMS, YOU'RE SUCH A DREAMER. BUT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DREAMS. DREAMS GIVE LIFE HOPE AND PURPOSE AND MEANING, ALL OF THAT RICH FULL STUFF. DREAMS ARE A SOURCE OF PLEASURE. DREAMS ARE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE WHO YOU ARE. YOU CAN EXPRESS THE SELF, YOUR VALUES, WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS YOU WANT TO MAKE TO THE WORLD. AND RESEARCHER HAVE SHOWN THAT PEOPLE WHO HOLD ON TO DREAMS, THAT ARE CONSTANTLY DREAMING NEW DREAMS LIVE LONGER, MORE FULFILLED LIVES, LESS ANXIETY, LESS DEPRESSION, FEWER HEALTH PROBLEMS.

WE'RE TALKING WAKING DREAMS.

THIS IS LIKE REAL SCIENTIFIC STUFF. DREAMS AREN'T THIS AIRY-FAIRY STUFF. THERE'S REAL IMPORTANCE IN VALUE HERE.

WHAT DO YOU TELL THE CHILDREN WHEN THEY'RE SITTING AROUND DAY DREAMING? IT IS OKAY?

IT IS OKAY. YOU HAVE TO START TO THINK ABOUT THEIR FUTURE. IF THEY DON HAVE A PICTURE OF WHERE THEY'RE GONNA GO, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO GET IN ER. I WANT KIDS TO DAY DREAM.

NIGHTTIME DREAMS THOUGH. AND I DO BELIEVE THAT THERE'S SOMETHING TO BE SAID FOR THOSE NIGHT TIME DREAMS. BECAUSE SOME OF THOSE CAN INSPIRE.

SURE.

DREAMS ARE DREAMS. I'M ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO SLEEPS WITH A NOTE PAD BESIDE HER BED. I GET IDEAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. DRIVES MY HUSBAND CRAZY. I CLICK ON A LAMP, I'M WRITING. YOU CAN GET A LOT OF GOOD IDEAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.

THAT'S TRUE. AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY WHEN YOU'RE JUST DREAMING.

THAT'S RIGHT.

READ A LITTLE BIT OF THE BOOK. WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME. I WANT TO HEAR YOU READ A FEW EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK SO THAT YOU CAN REALLY GET US THINKING ABOUT IT AND WE'LL GET OUT THERE AN BUY THIS BOOK.

I WANT TO INSPIRE BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS. THE LAST PAGE IN THE BOOK, THE WISE OLD STAR SAYS LOOK UP, UP, UP, INTO THOSE BILLION SPARKLING STARS. WHAT DREAMS DO YOU FIND? LITTLE DREAMS? BIG DREAMS? EACH A HOPE LOOKING FOR A LIFE TO MAKE IT REAL, A LIFE LIKE YOURS. BE A DREAMER. WITH EVERYTHING AROUND YOU, WITH EVERYTHING BEFORE AND AFTER YOU, WITH EVERYTHING THAT IS YOU. DREAM A DREAM. YOUR VERY OWN DREAM.

I JUST THINK THAT IS SO ASPIRING. WHEN I READ THAT PAGE RIGHT THERE, THAT KIND OF GAVE ME MOTIVATION TO GET UP, GET GOING. I DON'T KNOW. I JUST WALKED AWAY FEELING VERY, VERY GOOD. THAT'S WHEN I REALLY REALIZED THAT THIS BOOK IS NOT JUST FOR CHILDREN.

THE LAST LINE IN THE BOOK, THE DREAM A DREAM, YOUR VERY OWN DREAM. IF THERE WERE A NEXT PAGE IN THE BOOK, IT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM. SO I ENCOURAGE CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO WRITE THE NEXT PAGE IN THIS BOOK. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM? FILL IN THE BLANK.

LET'S QUICKLY TALK ABOUT THE VERY LAST PAGES HERE. WHAT IS ALL OF THIS INFORMATION? KIND OF REALLY GIVES DETAILS ABOUT THE BOOK.

THAT'S RIGHT. AT THE END OF THE BOOK WE GIVE INFORMATION ON EACH OF THE 15 ILLUSTRATORS, THE MEDIUM THEY USE, SOME OF THE LAYERS IN THEIR ILLUSTRATIONS. WE TELL YOU WHERE THE STARS ARE HIDDEN. IT'S A WAY TO INTRODUCE PEOPLE TO SOME OF THE LAYERS OF MEANING. THEN THIS BOOK IS PART OF THE LEGACY PROJECT WHICH IS A NATIONAL PROJECT. LEGACYPROJECT.ORG. YOU CAN GO AN GET MORE INFORMATION THERE. SELF-ASSESSMENT FOR ADULTS, A DREAMER PROFILE. YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF DREAMER YOU ARE. THERE'S ALL THIS STUFF YOU CAN DO SPRING BOARDING ONCE YOU'RE MOTIVATED AND INSPIRED BY THE TEXT.

WOW. AN INCREDIBLE BOOK PRESIDENT "DREAM." I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. A TALE OF WONDER, WISDOM AN WISHES BY SUSAN BOSAK. VERY, VERY NICE. LOVE IT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING WITH US.
