Kenneth C. Barnes, chair and professor of history at the University of Central Arkansas, discusses his book "Journey of Hope: The Back-to-Africa Movement in Arkansas in the Late 1800s." He explains why a number of African-Americans from rural Arkansas, particularly Conway County and the Arkansas Delta, emigrated to Liberia from 1879 to 1899. He also shares accounts of his 1998 visit to Monrovia, Liberia, where he interviews descendants of the emigrants. This episode was taped in the AETN studios in Conway.
