AETN celebrates programs funded by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation in October. Below you will find a brief description our highlighted programs and when each will air.
Delta Dreams
Delta Dreams is AETN’s two-year study of the region’s decline and plan for recovery. Delta Dreams is set primarily in Helena-West Helena and shares the stories of men and women, young and old, farmers, businessmen, teachers, lawyers, students, community leaders and others. Interviewees reminisce about Helena in its heyday after World War II. Delta Dreams explores the story of the decline, which continued into the year 2000. By then, Helena and West Helena had a combined population of approximately 14,000. Unemployment forced almost 40 percent of the county below the poverty line. Growing Roots
In the 1990's Arkansas's native born population grew 12 percent. The state's immigrant population almost tripled--rising from 25,000 to 75,000, a growth rate exceeded by only three other states." (Source: A Profile of Immigrants in Arkansas) The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation commissioned a study on the growh and impact of immigration in Arkansas. Time of Fear: Life Interrupted
In World War II, more than 110,000 Japanese Americans were forced to leave their homes and relocate to military camps dotted across the western United State TIME OF FEAR tells the story of the 16,000 men, women and children who were sent to two camps in southeast Arkansas, one of the poorest and most racially segregated places in America. This film explores the reactions of the native Arkansans who watched in bewilderment as their tiny towns were overwhelmed by this huge influx of outsiders. Troubled Water
"Troubled Water" is an AETN original sixty-minute documentary that traveled across the state to learn more about the potential for a water crisis in Arkansas. Farmers, Geologists, experts and concerned citizens share their opinions and stories about how water is managed in Arkansas and what we need to do to protect this irreplaceable resource. [Read More]
