Starting to make summer plans for your family? Kids can learn how inventions can make make the world a better place in two AETN Youth Academy camps this summer! Sign up now to join us for free “Get Moving Challenge” camps in June and the “Speedy Shelter Challenge” camps in July.

Each camp encourages kids to use their skills and creativity in new ways through programs inspired by PBS KIDS Design Squad and Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams. These compelling challenges emphasize teamwork, creative problem solving and how invention improves people’s lives. It’s a great way to help kids recognize that they have the ability to innovate and each of them is an inventor, too! Kids should come prepared to move and have fun! There is no cost for these free, one-day camps and morning snacks will be provided. All campers will need to bring sack lunches.

“Get Moving Challenge!”

“Get Moving Challenge!” camps are designed to spark the investigative spirit and stimulate your kids’ interest in math, science and engineering. By promoting creativity and challenging kids to to think through problems, this camp will encourage your youngsters to brainstorm, explore ways to move and be active, and design and build a game to get people moving!

AETN invites kids to participate in a program developed by Design Squad and Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams, who have teamed up to bring invention to life for kids through rich, hands-on challenges. Powered by AETN PBS KIDS, we’ll follow the design process to invent a solution to get people moving! Team members will play an “imagine new uses for old things” game; brainstorm ways to help people be more active; and follow the design process to invent a game, including the equipment and rules for playing it!

Two “Get Moving Challenge!” Camps will be held during the month of June:

Grades K-4

Monday, June 22, 2015
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Grades 5-8

Monday, June 29, 2015
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

“Speedy Shelter! Challenge Camps”

In July, don’t miss our “Speedy Shelter Challenge Camps”! Designed promote creativity, spark the investigative spirit and help kids learn to think through problems and express ideas through building and inventing things. AETN invites kids to participate in this program developed by Design Squad and Lemelson-MIT InveTeams, who have teamed up to bring invention to life for kids through rich, hands-on challenges. Powered by AETN PBS KIDS, we’ll follow the design process to invent a solution to a housing challenge. We’ll also explore habitats and various shelters. This camp is a great way to challenge children to think about a familiar shape in new ways as they brainstorm, design and build a shelter!

Through this project, team members will invent an emergency shelter that can fit a person and is sturdy and quick to build; think about familiar shapes in new ways, learn about an injured hiker who survived by building a makeshift shelter; brainstorm shelter designs; and follow the design process to invent a solution to the challenge.

Two “Speedy Shelter Challenge!” Camps will be held during the month of July:
