And, even better, we have excellent news! Cat in the Hat will join us and our friends from Mercy Northwest Arkansas to host an event in the Rogers Public Library Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is free and all of our guests will have the opportunity to have their photograph taken with the star of "Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That," as well the chance to enjoy story time with Dr. Seuss books and much more.
What else is wonderful to know about "The Cat in that Hat Knows a Lot About That"? In addition to helping kids get excited about reading with classic literary characters, this award-winning TV series (and its companion website, pbskids.org/catinthehat) is designed to spark a love of learning and an interest in science and math for preschool-aged children. Recent findings have shown that children graduation from kindergarten are less prespared to learn about science than other subjects, and "Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That" takes important steps to support young children's science learning by introducing scientfiic inqury skills, teaching core science concepts and vocabulary, and preparing preschoolers for kindergarten and first grade science curriculum. Of course, because Cat remains true to his origins as one of literature's favorite Seussical imaginings, he and his friends make their journeys and discoveries in high, whimsical style.
To get your little folks even more excited about Saturday's event, check out the PBS KIDS "Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That" website, pbskids.org/catinthehat, for tons of fun and games that help apply the program's lessons and - if they give you a chance to steal the computer back - find great science skill-building activities that you all can do together offline at pbs.org/parents/catinthehat.
