AETN's "Student Selects" to be screened at Little Rock Film Festival
Posted 23 May 2012
AETN sponsors YOUTH! workshops, screenings. The debut screenings of winning entries in the 2012 Student Selects: A Young Filmmakers Showcase, a production of the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN), and announcements of the 2012 THEA Foundation Young Filmmaker Scholarship recipients will be part of the Little Rock Film Festival YOUTH! program June 2-3.
"Student Selects: A Young Filmmakers Showcase" is an annual AETN event that highlights the creativity and talent of the state's kindergarten through 12th grade students. The project grants these future filmmakers the opportunity to submit their film and video handiwork for possible broadcast on AETN, streaming on aetn.org and screening at the Little Rock Film Festival. Four $2,500 scholarships, funded by the THEA Foundation, are awarded to graduating seniors in the categories of screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing.
Now in its sixth year, YOUTH! is a free event open to novice and experienced youth filmmakers. The weekend event includes a workshop series with film professionals discussing such topics as producing, directing, special effects makeup, how to use music to enhance a project, and much more.
In addition to general workshops, more advanced students can work in a selected group side-by-side with a team of professionals on a completely hands-on weekend project. This exclusive opportunity allows students to work with Arkansas's most sought after independent filmmakers. Participants are invited to emerge themselves in a professional film setting and network with filmmakers who can help them better understand how to further their film aspirations.
Young filmmakers interested in participating in the YOUTH! event should register at aetn.org/rsvp. Attendees will receive festival passes, T-shirts, swag bags and a complimentary lunch Saturday, June 2.
The Little Rock Film Festival takes place each spring in the historic River Market District. The festival showcases the best in narrative and documentary films from around the world and promotes Arkansas filmmakers through a dedicated program of film screenings, panels, workshops and youth programs.
