A four part series of "Barnes and…A Conversation With" will air on the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
"Barnes and…A Conversation With," AETN's public affairs series with host Steve Barnes, will feature:
- Robert Hilburn. Barnes speaks with author Robert Hilburn about his book "Johnny Cash: The Life." Hilburn, who personally knew Cash throughout his life, talks about the addiction, the marriages and the career of this music legend. Hilburn worked for the Los Angeles Times for more than 30 years as the chief music critic and pop music editor. He is also the author of the bestselling memoir "Cornflakes With John Lennon." "Barnes and … A Conversation With Robert Hilburn" airs Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6:30 p.m. and repeats Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
- John Lewis. Barnes is joined by Congressman John Lewis, one of the key leaders of the civil rights movement, to discuss his most recent book "March: Book One," co-written by Andrew Aydin and illustrated by Little Rock native Nate Powell. Lewis' life as an activist included lunch counter sit-ins, Freedom Rides, the 1963 March on Washington, and the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march that became known as "Bloody Sunday." "Barnes and … A Conversation With John Lewis" airs in two parts. Part one airs Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. and repeats Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6:30 p.m. Part two, which also features Aydin and Powell, airs Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. and repeats Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m.
- Sam Taggart. Barnes receives a history lesson on 200 years of health and disease in Arkansas from Dr. Sam Taggart, a writer and family physician. Taggart, who collects the medical history on the state, details this research in his recent book, "The Public's Health: A Narrative History of Health and Disease in Arkansas." "Barnes and … A Conversation With Sam Taggart" airs Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. and repeats Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m.
"Barnes and…A Conversation With," hosted by veteran journalist Steve Barnes and in production for more than 20 years, is an in-depth current affairs program featuring conversations with a wide variety of prominent individuals from diverse interests and backgrounds. The series is underwritten, in part, by a grant from the Moving Image Trust Fund.
