2017 Governor's Arts in Education Award
Art Porter Music Education, Inc., Little Rock

Art Porter Music Education (APME) was founded to honor the memory of legendary Arkansas jazz musician, producer and educator Art Porter, Sr., and his musician son, Art Porter, Jr. APME provides unique musical and educational opportunities for Arkansas youth, including a scholarship program for high school graduates pursuing a degree in music. Another program, Minors in Music, combines music education workshops with community service and connects students with professional musicians. The Little Emcees program works to boost confidence and leadership skills in underserved males by providing opportunities for public speaking, radio broadcasting, production duties, and other projects that foster effective communication techniques. APME is led by a five-member board of directors.
