Kevin Cole

Kevin Cole was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and received his B.S. in Art Education from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff. The award winning artist now living in Atlanta, Georgia was back in his hometown for a 25 year retrospective of his work. “Straight From the Soul.”

This profile showcases his aptitude with drawing, painting, printmaking and sculptural assemblage. Interview content explores the artist’s thematic use of neckties in his work. AETN caught up with Cole at Hearne Fine Art in Little Rock, Arkansas and the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas in Pine Bluff.

When I turned eighteen years old, my grandfather stressed the importance of voting by taking me to a tree where he was told that African-Americans were lynched by their neckties on their way to vote.  The experience left a profound impression in my mind.
