Posted on 31 Aug 2012

Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night 2012

With Labor Day coming on fast, this weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. Round it out royally this AETN Arts Friday with a night of extravagantly energetic music. First, join Arkansas’s own electrically infused roots-rock band Damn Bullets at 6:30 p.m. Then, close the evening with an astounding concert by the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic under the stars in the magnificent gardens of Austria’s Impreial Schonbrunn Palace at 9 p.m.

Blending of genres in a truly unique way, critically-acclaimed rock-roots band Damn Bullets gives a wildly entertaining concert in “AETN Presents: On the Front Row With Damn Bullets.” Members Joe Sundell, D.J. Bennett and Graeme Higgins meld elements of early rock and roll, ragtime blues, folk, bluegrass and country together with three-part harmonies to create an electrifying sound. Catch their show at 6:30 p.m. and you’ll enjoy the spectacular product of their fusion of classical training and folk sensibility.

As the perfect finale for the evening, tune in at 9 p.m. for “Great Performances: Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night 2012.” Conductor Gustavo Dudamel leads the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic, joined by dancers of the Vienna Ballet, in a celebration of the world of dance in music by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Richard Strauss. Also featured will be performances of Debussy’s “La Mer” and the Austrian favorite, “ Wiener Blut (Viennese Blood)” by Johann Strauss.
