Chuck’s Blog – “Exploring Arkansas: December 2017”

Experiencing the open bazaar and market of the Beebe Flea Market; visiting with the man who was on the last C-130 to fly out of Viet Nam, which happens to be on display at the Little Rock Air Force Base; spending time where the buffalo roam; and taking a flying leap (well, not exactly) at Lovers Leap Trail atop Rich Mountain: it’s all coming up in a brand new episode of “Exploring Arkansas” Wednesday, Dec. 6!

Exploring Arkansas Beebe Flea Market

There are flea markets, and then there are flea markets! The Beebe Flea Market is one that is a must-experience! Much more than just a flea market, this open bazaar is very similar to the kind that is held in larger U.S. cities and foreign countries. Here, you can literally find anything – and I do mean anything!  From all sorts of animals that are on sale to a gas mask to a hunting spear! Plus, great food cooked and grilled on the spot! It’s a social gathering that many people look forward to every Saturday morning in Beebe.

The C-130 on display at the front gate of the Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas, is a piece of history. It happens to be the last C-130 to fly out of Viet Nam immediately before the close of the war. One man’s history – who was a second lieutenant in the South Vietnamese Army and managed to hop aboard that plane as it was about to take off, along with 479 other people – is a freedom success story that’ll give you goose bumps!

Exploring Arkansas Buffalo Ranch Marshall

“Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam …” are song lyrics that one man near Marshall lives out on a daily basis. This buffalo ranch, though, is one that you can experience as well.  Lodging on the ranch provides the opportunity to be a buffalo ranch hand for a couple of days or a week – whatever suits your fancy.

Exploring Arkansas Lovers’ Leap Overlook

There are many “Lovers Leap” sites in Arkansas, and the Lovers Leap Trail atop Rich Mountain at Queen Wilhelmina State Park near Mena offers a breath-taking view of Ouachita National Forest below the “Lovers Leap” overlook.

Experience it all Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m.!
