Gearing up for AETN Family Day 2010

Posted on 05 Mar 2010

So...it's Spring Break, what on earth do you do with your kiddos?  Last year as I was pondering this all important question (and it IS important as parents know...we all want an enjoyable time and to keep our little ones occupied...and it's also a necessity to plan well with a full time job) I knew for sure that I needed to stay close to home and do something inexpensive.  Well, not only did I find something that was great amounts of fun for all of us, but it was FREE and just a short (and super fun) road trip away!  I loaded up the critters, some Goldfish crackers and water for the ride, and off we went to Springdale for AETN's Family Day event.

As we entered the fabulous Jones Center, we realized that we had made a good decision right away - a schedule of events told us that Clifford the Big Red Dog would be making an appearance or two, WordGirl with her over-sized smart noggin was there as well as Maya & Miguel and other PBS Kids characters.  Once hearing THAT great news, all my 3 year old daughter cared about was getting a picture with WordGirl.  She knows words and that's way cool in our book.

My 5 year old son gravitated to the bouncy castle and sweat like a crazy kid until we moved on to play Simon Says in the gym with WordGirl and then the craft table where he made a beaded necklace.  My daughter still wears it today so proud telling everyone that her brother made it for her.  Throughout the day, we snacked on popcorn, made our way around the Center making sure that we had collected each and every PBS Kids sticker known to man....listened to books being read....but the best part for sure....was the look on my kids' faces when Clifford or Maya & Miguel or another character would turn the corner with a big soft hug.  The pictures that day are cherished - as I sit writing this with AETN's Dino Train paused on the t.v. screen....thanks to AETN for offering us great kids' programming and way to bring it to life for my kids.  We'll be back this year!

Below is some information about this years AETN Family Day.

Traveling to the Jones Center with AETN will be PBS Kids favorites Clifford the Big Red Dog, the four heroes from Super Why!, Buddy the Dinosaur and Sid Science Kid.
