AETN Executive Director Weatherly elected PBS Board Vice Chairman

Allen Weatherly, Executive Director of the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) and the AETN Foundation, has been elected to serve as Vice Chairman of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Board of Directors.

It is an honor to serve as vice chairman of this excellent board, and to see the great work being done at PBS, at stations around the country and certainly at AETN makes it worthwhile, Weatherly said. I am grateful to this board and everyone at AETN for this opportunity.

The PBS Board of Directors is responsible for governing and setting policy for PBS. The board comprises 27 members: 14 professional members who are member station leaders; 12 general directors who are representatives of the general public; and the PBS president. Board members serve without pay. The membership of PBS elects the professional members. The general directors are elected by the board, which also appoints the president and chief executive officer.

Weatherly has been with AETN since 1993, serving seven years as deputy director before taking his current position in January 2001. He has worked in public television for 30 years. In addition to service on the board at large, he is a member of the PBS Board Executive Committee and chairman of the PBS Station Services Committee.

PBS, with its nearly 360 member stations, offers all Americans - from every walk of life - the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds through television and online content. Each month, PBS reaches more than 118 million people through television and nearly 21 million people online, inviting them to experience the worlds of science, history, nature and public affairs; to hear diverse viewpoints; and to take front row seats to world-class drama and performances.

The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) is Arkansass statewide public television network that enhances lives by providing lifelong learning opportunities for people from all walks of life. AETN delivers local, award-winning productions and classic, trusted PBS programs aimed at sharing Arkansas and the world with viewers. AETN depends on the generosity of Arkansans and the State of Arkansas to continue offering quality programming.
