AETN offers classes for Arkansas educators via webinars

The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) will offer a series of webinars Wednesdays in August to introduce educators to the features, services and benefits of ArkansasIDEAS and PBS resources.

"These webinars are an efficient way to reach Arkansas users who depend on us - a group that has doubled in the past 18 months - in an efficient manner without the burden of travel," AETN Director of Education Bryan Fields said. "We're constantly growing, and this is a new method of training that we can use to empower and support the entire state."

Webinars will address PBS educational resources, the ArkansasIDEAS professional development portal, and national and state level initiatives, including Common Core State Standards, the Teacher Excellence and Support System (TESS), administrative trainings, gifted and special education, and Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education. Webinars will be viewable through computers or mobile devices.

Webinars include:

  • ArkansasIDEAS: An Introduction - Wednesday, Aug. 7 or Aug. 14, 1-2 p.m. This webinar is an introduction to the ArkansasIDEAS portal. Participants will learn how to register, navigate, take a course, print certificates, update their profile and access the ArkansasIDEAS TESS resources.
  • ArkansasIDEAS: What's New? - Wednesday, Aug. 7 or Aug. 14, 2-3 p.m. ArkansasIDEAS offers a wealth of tools and resources for educators. This webinar explores: the portal's newest microsites built to support Common Core State Standards, STEM, TESS and gifted education; courses to meet specific professional development requirements; and new technology with Lynda.com.
  • Innovative PBS Educational Resources - Wednesday, Aug. 7 or Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-11 a.m. This presentation features three of PBS' most innovative educational resources offered free of charge to educators through AETN: AETN PBS LearningMedia, an on-demand media service; PBS KIDS Island, online activities equipped with a progress tracker to monitor student success; and PBS TeacherLine, high-quality, graduate-level, online courses for PreK-12 educators.

Registration is required. Educators should visit ideas.aetn.org/pd/webinars for additional information and to register. One hour of technology credit will be awarded from ArkansasIDEAS, and a certificate will be provided via email.

ArkansasIDEAS (ideas.aetn.org), the first and largest state-funded comprehensive online professional development resource for educators in the nation, was launched as a cooperative endeavor between AETN and the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), building on a productive relationship of more than 30 years. ArkansasIDEAS is designed to enhance educators' content knowledge and instructional skills by providing high-quality, online professional development to improve teacher quality and increase student achievement.

Arkansas currently requires one of the highest numbers of professional development hours each year to maintain a teaching license and now has the largest comprehensive continuing education portal - including trainings, courses, resources and assessments - in a cutting-edge online setting. More than 38,500 registered educators in all regions of the state have completed approximately 610,000 credit hours in ArkansasIDEAS since its launch 8 years ago.
