Big News for PBS KIDS Fall 2014
Posted on 29 Jul 2014
We have all sorts of exciting news for PBS KIDS fans! From exciting new episodes and movies to brand new shows, big things are coming to AETN this fall.
Kicking off all of the fun in August is a brand new “Dinosaur Train” one-hour special, “Classic in the Jurassic,” on Monday, Aug. 18, at 8 and 11 a.m. In this new prehistoric creature feature, kids can travel through time with the Pteranodon family to an Olympic-style competition with dinosaur teams represent three Mesozoic time periods compete in contests. Even more fun? We’ll be airing new companion episodes throughout the week during “Dinosaur Train” regular timeslots at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.
And August 18 is a great day for PBS KIDS all the way around, because after you tune in to the “Dinosaur Train: Classic in the Jurassic,” “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Season 2” premieres at 10 a.m. with its one-hour special, “Meet the New Baby.” As you might guess from the title, this season begins with the arrival of Daniel’s little sister Margaret, and the Tiger family and Daniel explore what it means to be a big brighter and a big helper, too. As the season continues, Daniel and little “tigers” across Arkansas will continue their focus on important issues young children encounter with a new sibling — like feeling left out, learning to share time and attention, and appreciating how fun siblings can be — as well as accompanying strategies that help preschoolers work through their feelings.
In September, as the school year begins and everyone’s schedules change, we and PBS will also be adjusting our daytime schedules to better support our younger viewers! The new AETN PBS KIDS schedule, which keeps the double-stacked episode format we introduced this summer going, will begin Monday, Sept. 1. On top of the all around fun it brings, there’s something we (and we hope you) will be especially excited to see … a new, thirty-minute “Sesame Street” program! This bonus half-hour program will air in the afternoon at (1) p.m., and complement our regular, one-hour episodes of “Sesame Street” that air on weekday mornings at 9 a.m.
And last, but certainly not least, we’ll keep the fun going with our newest show from The Fred Rogers Company in November. “Odd Squad” — which comes to us from the creators of “Adventure Time,” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, “The Electric Company” and “The Backyardigans” — is a live action media property that follows two young government agents — Olive and Otto — who use math skills and collaboration to investigate weird and unusual phenomena. While this show it truly lots of fun of its own, it’s also amazing to see how it cleverly introduces early math concepts, particularly at a time when STEM education is proving to be so important.
