TRANSCRIPT

HI WELCOME BACK.

TODAY WE'RE GOING TO DO ANOTHER FUN PAINTING SO LET'S GET STARTED.

THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO IS COAT THIS CANVAS WITH WHITE MEDIUM SO I WILL DIP A 2" BRUSH INTO A LITTLE BIT OF THE WHITE, AND WE WILL SPREAD IT AROUND EVENLY ON THE CANVAS.

IN FACT WE WILL RUN THE COLORS ACROSS THE TOP HERE SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I AM DOING.

NOW THIS HERE IS A PIECE OF MASKING TAPE, JUST HALF INCH MASKING TAPE, AND WE'RE GOING TO DO A SEA SCAPE TODAY SO THAT'S GOING TO GIVE US A STRAIGHT HORIZON LINE.

WE WILL PAINT OVER IT LIKE IT'S NOT THERE AND WHEN IT'S TIME TO START THE WATER WE WILL PULL IT AWAY AND WE WILL HAVE A PERFECTLY STRAIGHT AND EVEN LINE BECAUSE THE SEA SCAPES THEY DON'T LOOK AS GOOD IF THE WATER IS GOING LIKE THIS.

THAT WILL GIVE US A VERY LEVEL HORIZON.

NOW I'M BEING VERY CAREFUL HERE TO COAT THE CANVAS WITH ONLY A LITTLE BIT.

WE DON'T WANT TOO MUCH. TOO MUCH OF THIS PAINT UP HERE WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS.

IT WILL MAKE THE CANVAS TOO WET AND THE COLORS WILL BECOME KIND OF MUDDY SO AVOID TOO MUCH.

JUST A THIN COAT.

NOW WE WILL MIX UP A FEW COLORS FOR OUR SKY SO I'M GOING TO START OFF NOW WITH BRIGHT RED AND A LITTLE BIT OF PRUSSIAN BLUE AND MIX THOSE TOGETHER, A LITTLE MORE BRIGHT RED, AND WE WILL SET THAT ONE RIGHT THERE. GRAB SOME BRIGHT RED PRUSSIAN BLUE, THIS TIME MORE BLUE. OKAY.

TAKE SOME OF THAT AND PUT THAT RIGHT THERE, AND LET'S ADD SOME DARK SIENNA TO IT.

THERE WE GO.

TAKE THAT.

SET THAT OFF TO THE SIDE AND THERE IS SOME MIDNIGHT BLACK AND I WILL ADD WHITE TO EACH COLOR TO LIGHTEN IT.

NOW THAT WE HAVE OUR COLORS MIXED WE CAN GO ON WITH THE SKY BUT BEFORE I USE THOSE I'M GOING TO GO INTO A TINY BIT OF CADMIUM YELLOW, ALMOST NO PAINT ON THE BRUSH.

LOOK HOW STRONG IT IS. IT'S VERY BRIGHT AND I DIDN'T LOAD VERY MUCH ON THE BRUSH AND WE WILL LET THAT WORK AROUND AND UP.

LET IT GET LIGHTER AS IT COMES OUT.

WITHOUT WASHING THE BRUSH I'M GOING TO HIT THE TINIEST BIT OF BRIGHT RED AND GO AROUND THAT.

NOW RED AND YELLOW AND OF COURSE THEY MAKE ORANGE SO THIS ISN'T GOING TO BE SUPER DARK RED AT ALL.

IT'S GOING TO BE A VERY SOFT COLOR.

NOW I WILL TAKE A 1" BRUSH AND PULL IT THROUGH SOME OF THAT BROWN AND THE BLUE AND THE RED AND LET'S COME RIGHT IN HERE AND LET'S START MAKING SOME CLOUDS.

LOOK AT THAT.

DARK SIENNA IN THERE. MAKES IT VERY, VERY NICE AND SOFT.

IT'S A SOFT COLOR AND WE WILL KIND OF PAINT THAT RIGHT AROUND OUR BRIGHT AREA, AND WE GET VERY NICE CLOUDS, AND I'M NOT BEING VERY CAREFUL HERE AT ALL.

I AM JUST KIND OF THROWING THEM IN BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO LOOK GREAT HERE. WE'RE GOING TO BLEND THEM AND THEY WILL LOOK A LITTLE NICER.

FOR NOW I'M JUST LOOKING FOR THE COLOR ON THE CANVAS.

LIKE THAT WITH MORE RED IN IT.

VERY NICE. THERE IT GOES.

BE LOOSE.

LET THE BRUSH GO WHEREVER YOU WANT. IT JUST BOUNCES RIGHT AROUND THE CANVAS, ANYWHERE YOU DON'T LOVE COVER IT UP WITH A DIFFERENT COLOR.

SEE IT GETS DARKER AS IT COMES AWAY FROM THAT WHITE. LOOK IT'S VERY, VERY FREE. THIS IS THAT MIDNIGHT BLACK. THERE'S SOME OF THAT WITH MORE BLUE IN IT.

JUST SWIRL IT IN AND LEAVING THE LIGHT AND DARK POCKETS.

MAYBE THERE'S A CLOUD THAT COMES OUT LIKE THAT.

WE WILL ADD SOME HIGHLIGHTS LATER. THE NEXT THING WE NEED TO DO IS BLEND THESE CLOUDS SO I HAVE GRABBED A CLEAN 2" BRUSH AND I'M GOING TO USE ONLY THE TOP CORNER AND COME IN HERE AND BLEND.

I AM USING TINY, TINY CIRCLES TO BLEND THESE CLOUDS.

I AM BEING CAREFUL NOT TO DRAG THE DIRTY BRUSH INTO THAT PRETTY YELLOW BECAUSE I WOULD LOSE IT AND IT WOULD BECOME VERY MUDDY.

NOW THESE CLOUDS WERE DONE QUICKLY, LOOSELY.

THERE ARE A LOT OF ROUGH AREAS IN THEM BUT IT'S NOT A BAD THING BUT WE WANT TO BLEND THEM OUT SO THEY LOOK VERY SOFT. WHEN YOU ARE PAINTING YOURS STEP BACK.

IT'S HARD TO SEE IT WHEN YOU'RE CLOSE.

STEP BACK AND SEE IF YOU HAVE IT DONE OR SEE IF IT'S TOO ROUGH AND IF IT IS BLEND IT A LITTLE MORE.

NOTICE HOW THE CORNERS OF THE PAINT REGULAR DARKER THAN THE INSIDE BECAUSE WHEN YOU COME TOWARD THE LIGHT IT SHOULD BE A LITTLE BRIGHTER.

NOW I WILL LOAD UP A FAN BRUSH WITH SOME WHITE AND LET'S ADD A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT ON THESE CLOUDS.

I'M USING ONLY THE CORNER OF THE BRUSH AND I'M TAPPING AND FOCUSING ON THE OUTSIDE ONLY, AND THIS IS LIKE A LITTLE SILVER LINING ON THE EDGE OF THE CLOUDS.

THERE.

NOW MAYBE WE WANT IT TO KIND OF WRAP BACK AROUND.

ADD EXTRA LAYERS AND DIMENSION IN THE CLOUDS. THERE.

AND TAP SOME ALONG THAT EDGE.

REALLY I'M GOING TO WORK IT AROUND ALL THE EDGES BECAUSE IN THIS PAINTING THE LIGHT SOURCE IS VERY BRIGHT IN THE MIDDLE THERE, SO I THINK IT WOULD HIGHLIGHT ALL THE EDGES OF THE CLOUDS.

NOW RIGHT IN HERE WE CAN SPIN THE BRUSH JUST LIKE THIS, AND YOU GET SUGGESTION OF HIGHLIGHTS THAT AREN'T AS DISTINCT.

BACK TO THE 2" BRUSH AND WE WILL BLEND OUT THIS HIGHLIGHT, AND I'M USING TIGHT AND TINY CIRCLES TO GENTLY BLEND IT AWAY.

DON'T WANT TO DESTROY IT TOTALLY.

I JUST WANT TO SOFTEN THE EDGES.

NOW THAT THE SKY IS DONE WE CAN TAKE OFF THIS PIECE OF MASKING TAPE AND WE HAVE A VERY NICE EVEN HORIZON LINE, AND I WILL PICK UP A FILBERT BRUSH GO THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF PURPLE AND I'M GOING TO SKETCH IN MY BASIC WAVE.

MAYBE THERE'S A LITTLE ONE AND KIND OF RUNS ALONG LIKE THAT, AND LET'S HAVE A BIGGER ONE AND THIS ONE COMES RIGHT ABOUT THERE.

IT GIVES YOU A VERY BASIC IDEA WHERE OUR WAVE IS GOING TO BE TODAY.

IT CRASHES RIGHT THERE.

WE WILL HAVE SOME FOAM RIGHT THERE.

I WILL LOAD UP A 1" BRUSH WITH SOME OF THE SAME PURPLE COLOR, AND LET'S COME IN HERE AND START BLOCKING IN THIS WHOLE PAINTING. NOW, IF YOU DON'T REMEMBER THE PURPLE IS MADE OUT OF BRIGHT RED AND PRUSSIAN BLUE AND WE WILL USE SOME OF THAT AND RUB IT AROUND LIKE THIS AND THERE IS SOME RIGHT HERE.

I AM STILL LEAVING THE BASIC IDEA OF THE WAVE IN THERE.

AND SOME OVER HERE.

I AM LEAVING THAT WHITE AREA IN THE MIDDLE BECAUSE I'M GOING TO HAVE SOME YELLOW THERE INSTEAD OF THE PURPLE.

NOW, I WILL TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF YELLOW OCHRE AND ADD CADMIUM YELLOW AND BRIGHT RED TO IT AND GET A BRIGHT ORANGE COLOR AND ADD WHITE TO LIGHTEN IT AND OUR BRIGHT AREA IS GOING TO BE HERE IN THE MIDDLE TODAY.

OF COURSE BECAUSE THE LIGHT SOURCE HERE RIGHT ABOVE.

WE WILL GET ALL THESE NICE COLORS REFLECTING OFF THE WATER.

NOW, ALL I AM DOING IS FILLING IN THE WHITE AREA. I'M NOT REALLY GOING INTO THE PURPLE YET.

ALL RIGHT.

AND WE WILL BE ADDING HIGHLIGHT TO THIS, SO SOME OF THIS WILL SHOW THROUGH BUT A LOT WILL BE COVERED UP.

WE WILL COME IN NOW AND GENTLY WORK THESE TWO COLORS TOGETHER.

JUST BLEND THEM. MAKE THEM SOFT.

I DON'T WANT TO BE ABLE TO TELL WHERE THEY START AND STOP.

I WANT THIS TRANSITION TO BE VERY GENTLY GO RIGHT UP TO THE CLOUDS THERE. NOW WE'RE GOING TO ADD SOME HIGHLIGHT TO THESE BACKGROUND WAVES SO I WILL CUT OFF A LITTLE ROLL OF PAINT ON THE KNIFE AND THIS IS PURE WHITE, AND I'M GOING JUST GOING TO TAP, TOUCH VERY LIGHTLY THE KNIFE.

LET IT BOUNCE RIGHT ALONG THE CANVAS. YOU CAN SEE ALREADY THIS LOOKS LIKE LITTLE WAVES IN THE BACKGROUND.

LET SOME OF THE ORANGE SHOW THROUGH.

NOW I'M ONLY CONCENTRATING IN THE MIDDLE HERE BECAUSE AS I COME AWAY FROM THE LIGHT I WANT IT TO BE DARKER SO WILL DO THOSE LATER.

I WILL ADD SOME PURPLE TO THE COLOR. FOR NOW KE THEMIGHT IN THE MILE AND PURE WHITE.

LOOK AT ALL THAT LIGHT DANCING ACROSS THE WATER.

AND AN SEE WHERE WE LEFT THASMALL WAVE IN THE BACKGROUND SO OF COSE I DON'T WANT ANY HIGHLIGHT OVER THAT.

I TO KEEP THAT DARK. AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO COVER UP ALL THAT ORANGE.

YOU WANT TO COVER UP MOST OF IT.

LEAVE SOME OF IT SHOWING THROUGH.

IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE DARK SHADOW AREAS TO YOUR WAVES.

NOW WE HAVE THE WHITE DONE WE CAN MIX UP A COLOR FOR THE WAVES THAT MAYBE AREN'T AS CLOSE TO THE LIGHT, SO HERE'S A LITTLE BRIGHT RED AND YELLOW OCHRE.

MIX THOSE TOGETHER. YOU GET KIND OF AN ORANGE.

MAYBE A LITTLE DARK SIENNA AND TURN IT INTO A SALMON COLOR.

NOW WITH THAT COLOR WE CAN BEGIN BLENDING THE LIGHT WAVES INTO THE MEDIUM SHADE WAVES BACK HERE AND WE WILL DO THAT JUST RUB WG THAT KNIFE.

LET THE TWO COLORS BLEND TOGETHER.

DON'T WORRY.

JUST LET IT HAPPEN.

LET THE KNIFE BOUNCE AROUND ALMOST RANDOMLY. LEAVE A LOT OF THAT NICE DARK COLOR IN THERE.

THERE WE GO. I LIKE THAT.

YOU SEE THE SOFT TRANSITION ALL RIGHT.

WE HAVEN'T DONE MUCH YET AND MAYBE IT COMES OUT ABOUT THAT FAR. LEAVE A LITTLE EXTRA SPOT OPEN FOR SOME DARKER ONES.

THERE THEY COME.

GO RIGHT INTO THE LIGHT THERE.

A LITTLE ON THIS SIDE TOO.

NOW, WE CBEGIN THINKING ABOUT SOME WAVES THAT ARE VERY FAR AWAY FROM THE LIGHT SOURCE HERE.

NOW, I KNOW THAT DIDN'T SHOW UP VERY GOOD, MAYBE NOT AT ALL.

NOW, I WILL PULL A FAN BRUSH PULL SOME MIDNIGHT BLACK AND PRUSSIAN BLUE AND WE NEED SOME VERY DARK COLOR RIGHT HERE, SO I'M GOING JUST TO START RIGHT AT THE TOP AND PULL DOWN BECAUSE THIS IS A WAVE AND WE NEED THE DARK COLOR HERE AND THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE'RE ADDING HIGHLIGHT HERE AND IN ORDER TO SHOW LIGHT YOU MUST HAVE DARK.

AND IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF DARK SHADOW AREAS THEN YOUR WAVE WILL HAVE A LOT OF DEPTH.

IT WILL LOOK VERY GOOD, VERY REAL.

NOW, WE'RE GOING TO WORK ON THE MIDDLE OF OUR WAVE, SO I WILL ADD A LITTLE BIT OF GREEN TO THAT MIDNIGHT BLACK AND BLUE AND RIGHT DOWN IN HERE WE WILL RUB WITH THE FILBERT BRUSH.

THIS IS JUST DARK COLOR.

I'M NOT TOO CONCERNED WITH IT.

MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THAT YOU DON'T GET IT TOO HIGH INTO YOUR WAVE BECAUSE I WANT THAT TO BE VERY BRIGHT UP THERE.

NOW, WE CAN BEGIN THINKING ABOUT THE VERY BRIGHT PART OF THE WAVE. THIS IS CALLED THE EYE, THE TRANSPARENT PART OF THE WAVE. THIS IS YELLOW AND WHITE, CADMIUM YELLOW AND WHITE WITH THE FILBERT BRUSH AND I'M JUST RUBBING IT IN AND I'M NOT TOUCHING THE GREEN YET.

RELOAD AND NOW WE WILL GO INTO INTO THE GREEN, NOT TOO MUCH, BUT JUST ENOUGH TO GET SOME OF THE YELLOW IN THERE AND PICK UP A CLEAN BRUSH.

WE WILL COME IN HERE VERY LIGHTLY BLEND.

START AT THE TOP AND THEN WORK DOWN. LOOK AT THAT VERY PRETTY, ALMOST KIND OF IRIDESCENT GREEN COLOR. VERY NICE.

I LIKE THAT A LOT. NOW WE CAN ADD SOME GREEN TO THE BACKGROUND WAVE SO I HAVE LOADED UP A LITTLE BIT OF THE SAME GREEN COLOR WITH THE FAN BRUSH AND I JUST WANT TO RUB IT IN. THAT GIVES US SOME COLOR IN THE BACKGROUND BECAUSE I THINK THAT WAVE BACK THERE WILL HAVE SOME DETAIL ON IT SO WE WILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF THE GREEN COLOR SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE THIS ONE TOO. NOW, I WILL LOAD UP THE FAN BRUSH WITH A LITTLE BIT OF PURE WHITE AND LET'S ADD THE BRIGHT ROLLING PART OF THE WAVE HERE, JUST PULL IT RIGHT OVER.

THERE IT GOES.

RELOAD THE BRUSH OFTEN SO THAT YOU HAVE PURE COLOR ON THERE, VERY BRIGHT.

NOW, WE CAN BEGIN THINKING ABOUT A LITTLE BIT OF FOAM RIGHT HERE CURLING WAVE.

THAT'S ENOUGH, JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA AND WE WILL GO INTO THE 1" BRUSH AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE SAME WHITE AND THIS BRUSH WAS DIRTY SO IT'S NOT PURE WHITE AND RIGHT HERE LET'S HAVE A SPLASH.

I WILL PUT A ROCK IN THERE.

IT WILL MAKE MORE SENSE BUT FOR NOW JUST A LITTLE BIT OF THE WHITE.

YEAH, LOOK AT THAT.

COME AROUND AND UP.

THERE WE GO.

TAP IT RIGHT IN.

A LITTLE BIT ON TOP THERE. AND THIS IS ALREADY CRASHED AND IT'S KIND OF CURLING HERE. IT'S ROLLING IN ON THE SHORE SO IT'S JUST VERY WHITE AND FOAMY AND KIND OF DESTROYED LOOKING. WAVES ALREADY CRASHED.

THERE'S SOME MORE JUST LIKE IT, AND HERE'S SOME PURE WHITE, VERY BRIGHT, OUT ON THE TOP THERE, AND DARKER AS YOU COME IN, AND OF COURSE WE WILL BE BLENDING THIS OUT A LITTLE.

IT WILL BE SOFTER.

WITH THE FAN BRUSH WE CAN ADD IN A LITTLE TINY CRASHING WAVES BACK IN HERE. JUST PULL WITH THE FAN BRUSH LEAVING SOME OF THAT GREEN SHOWING THROUGH.

NOW, WE CAN BEGIN BLENDING THIS FOAM, SO I WILL TAKE A CLEAN 2" BRUSH AND WE WILL USE ONLY THE TOP CORNER AND VERY, VERY LIGHTLY BLEND IT. THERE.

LOOK AT ALL THOSE NICE DARK AND LIGHT AREAS THAT JUST HAPPEN.

DON'T BLEND THE WHOLE THING.

LEAVE SOME AREAS WHERE YOU DON'T EVEN TOUCH.

WITH THE 1" BRUSH AND YELLOW OCHRE AND DARK SIENNA WE CAN COME RIGHT HERE IN THE MIDDLE AND PULL DOWN.

THIS IS GOING TO CREATE A VERY NICE HIGHLIGHTS AND THE SAND.

BRING IT ALL THE WAY UP TO THE WAVE LIKE THAT, AND TRY TO MATCH YOUR WATER UP THERE, AND AS WE WORK OUT AWAY FROM THE LIGHT ADD SOME MORE DARK SIENNA. SEE HOW IT'S GETTING A LITTLE BIT DARKER AS WE WORK AWAY. THAT'S JUST PERFECT, AND THEN SOME MIDNIGHT BLACK.

LET IT GET VERY DARK AS IT COMES OUT. ALMOST PURE BLACK ON THE INSIDE HERE RIGHT UP TO THE WAVE. FILL IT ALL IN WITH THIS SAND COLOR. NOW WE WILL ADD SOME EXTRA HIGHLIGHT TO THE SAND SO I WILL TAKE A 2" BRUSH WITH JUST A LITTLE BIT OF WHITE PAINT ON IT AND COME HERE TO THE CENTER AND PULL DOWN, PULL IT STRAIGHT DOWN.

YOU WILL GET A VERY BRIGHT HIGHLIGHT AND LET THAT HIGHLIGHT GET DARKER AS IT COMES OUT, LESS AND LESS HIGHLIGHT. THEN I WILL WIPE THE BRUSH OFF. DOESN'T HAVE TO BE REAL CLEAN AND THEN WE'LL LIGHTLY BLEND ACROSS AND LOOK AT THAT.

JUST A FEW SECONDS AND YOU HAVE A VERY WET SAND LOOK.

LET'S BLEND THIS WAVE IN TO THE SAND SO THAT WE DON'T SEE A HARSH TRANSITION, JUST VERY LIGHTLY GET A LITTLE BLEND.

I AM USING THAT SAME BRUSH.

THINK ABOUT THE SHAPE OF THE WAVE.

IT'S KIND OF CURLING, SO THIS STROKE SHOULD BE PRETTY CURLED LIKE THAT.

WITH THE FAN BRUSH AND A LITTLE BIT OF YELLOW AND WHITE WE CAN ADD IN AN EXTRA LITTLE HIGHLIGHT ON THE SAND BECAUSE THAT SUN IS VERY BRIGHT AND IT'S REFLECTING OFF ALL THIS WET SAND HERE, SO WE HAVE THIS VERY NICE WARM YELLOW COLOR, AND A LITTLE BIT OF PURE WHITE IN THE MIDDLE.

THEN SET THAT BRUSH DOWN.

GO BACK TO THE 2" BRUSH. VERY LIGHTLY SOFTEN THAT.

NOW I'M GOING TO PULL MY WHITE OUT FLAT AND THEN CUT ACROSS TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF PAINT OUT ON THE TIP.

NOW WITH THAT LITTLE BIT OF PAINT ON THE EDGE OF THE KNIFE WE CAN DROP IN SOME FOAM SITTING ON TOP OF THIS SAND, AND MAYBE IT COMES IN LIKE THIS. NOW I'M PUSHING VERY HARD HERE. ACTUALLY I AM BENDING THAT BLADE BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET THAT NICE BRIGHT EDGE AND I WANT THAT, AND COMES DOWN LIKE THAT.

THERE.

AND ONE MORE RIGHT HERE.

WITH THE FAN BRUSH WE CAN COME TO THE TOP OF THIS WAVE AND DROP IN LITTLE EXTRA DETAIL, A LITTLE SOMETHING LIKE IT'S CRASHING OVER, BUT JUST STARTING TO CRASH OVER RIGHT OVER HERE ON THE TOP.

THERE. AND WHILE WE HAVE THE FAN BRUSH GOING LET'S JUST PULL AND BLEND THIS FOAM BACK.

THERE.

DON'T TOUCH THE TOP OF THE FOAM THE OUTSIDE EDGE BECAUSE WE WANT THAT VERY BRIGHT AND PURE. JUST BLEND IT RIGHT BACK.

WE CAN BEGIN THINKING ABOUT SOME LITTLE FOAM AREAS THAT TRAVEL UP THIS WAVE.

I HAVE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF WHITE ON THE FAN BRUSH, NOT TOO MUCH.

AND REMEMBER YOU WANT TO THINK ABOUT THIS WAVE -- THE WAY THIS WAVE IS SHAPED HERE. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.

IT NEEDS TO RUN AND CURL UP LIKE THAT AND BLEND IT IN WITH THE REST OF THE WATER DOWN HERE.

WITH THE SCRIPT LINER AND A LITTLE BIT OF BLACK, MIDNIGHT BLACK ON THE BRUSH.

LET'S DROP IN A DARK LINE UNDERNEATH THIS FOAM. THIS WILL REALLY HELP RAISE IT UP, MAKE IT STAND OUT.

JUST A LITTLE SHADOW UNDER THERE, AND IF YOUR PAINT DOES NOT FLOW OFF THE SCRIPT LINER THEN ADD SOME PAINT THINNER TO IT.

NOW WITH A LITTLE BIT OF BLACK AND DARK SIENNA ON THE KNIFE WE CAN BEGIN THINKING ABOUT SOME ROCKS HERE. FIRST ROCK WILL BE RIGHT NEAR THIS WAVE.

IN FACT THIS WAVE IS HITTING UP AGAINST IT.

IT'S REALLY CRASHING MAKING A HUGE SPLASH SO WE WILL DROP IT RIGHT IN.

YOU CAN USE THE POINT OF THE KNIFE TO KIND OF WORK THAT PAINT AROUND, WHATEVER YOU WANT, KIND OF SCULPTURE THE ROCK. OKAY.

HAVE IT COME DOWN ABOUT THERE.

IN FACT HERE LET'S PUSH THAT WAVE RIGHT BACK INTO THE PAINTING, AND LET'S HAVE A COUPLE OF TINY ONES OUT HERE TOO .

SOMETIMES IT HELPS TO REMOVE YOUR FOAM.

THAT WAY YOU HAVE THE ROCKS NICE AND DARK. ONE HERE IN THE CORNER.

NOW LET'S HAVE ONE OF THOSE ROCKS RIGHT HERE TOO.

ANYWHERE YOU WANT A ROCK IT'S VERY EASY TO JUST DROP IT RIGHT IN.

THERE'S A LITTLE GUY RIGHT THERE. THESE ROCKS ADD A LOT OF DETAIL TO YOUR PAINTING, MAKE IT LOOK VERY INTERESTING.

NOW WE CAN ADD SOME HIGHLIGHT TO THESE ROCKS JUST BY RUBBING WITH THE POINT OF THE KNIFE.

THIS IS YELLOW OCHRE AND DARK SIENNA AND WHITE OF COURSE TO LIGHTEN IT UP. DROP IN ALL THOSE NICE HIGHLIGHTS BUT DO LEAVE A LOT OF THAT DARK.

OKAY.

MAYBE THIS ONE NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF HIGHLIGHT TOO.

THERE.

OKAY. LOOKING GOOD.

WE WILL MOVE ONTO THE NEXT ONE.

NOW WE WILL HIGHLIGHT THE ROCKS ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE.

WE WILL HIGHLIGHT THEM ON THE LEFT SO THE ROCKS ON THE RIGHT WE HIGHLIGHT ON THE LEFT BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE SUN IS IN THE PAINTING.

IT'S IN THE MIDDLE AND STRIKING ROCKS ABOUT THAT ANGLE.

IT'S VERY, VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER AND IF YOU GOT IT WRONG AND PUT IT ON THE WRONG SIDE IT WOULD DISTURB YOUR EYE AND NOT LOOK RIGHT AT ALL. THINK ABOUT YOUR LIGHT SOURCE AS YOU HIGHLIGHT.

NOW WE CAN THINK ABOUT A LITTLE OF THE WATER THAT IS SPLASHING OVER THE ROCK SO WE WILL TAKE THE 1" BRUSH AND SOME WHITE.

LOOK AT THIS.

PUSH THAT ROCK RIGHT BACK INTO THE PAINTING.

ALL RIGHT.

I THINK WE HAVE A FINISHED PAINTING. ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS SIGN IT. I HAD A LOT OF FUN.

SEA SCAPES CAN BE EXCITING.

THEY GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO PLAY AROUND WITH LIGHT AND DARK QUITE A BIT.

I HOPE YOU HAD A LOT OF FUN. TUNE IN NEXT TIME AND WE WILL DO ANOTHER GREAT PAINTING NEXT TIME AND THANKS FOR WATCHING.
