TRANSCRIPT

HI WELCOME BACK.

TODAY WE'RE GOING TO DO ANOTHER FUN PAINTING SO LET'S GET STARTED. FIRST OF ALL WE NEED TO MAKE THIS CANVAS WET SO I WILL START OFF WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WHITE ON A 2" BRUSH.

THIS WHITES A THIN OIL BASED MED YEM THAT YOU LIKE TO APPLY TO THE ENTIRE CANVAS BEFORE STARTING A PAINTING AND I AM USING BIG OVERLAPPING X'S TO QUICKLY BLOCK IN A NICE EVEN COAT ACROSS THE WHOLE CANVAS.

WHAT THIS IS GOING TO DO IS MAKE IT WET SO I CAN COME UP HERE AND BLEND COLOR RIGHT ON THE CANVAS.

MAKES THE PAINTING MUCH EASIER, MUCH MORE SMOOTHLY AND TODAY I THOUGHT WE WOULD DO A NICE LANDSCAPE, MAYBE A RIVER, MOUNTAIN IN THE BACKGROUND, SOMETHING NICE AND PEACEFUL. AND I WILL JUST QUICKLY FINISH UP THE REST OF THIS WHITE AND THEN WE'LL BE READY TO GO ON.

NOW I WANT TO MAKE A SKY SO I GRABBED A CLEAN 2" BRUSH.

YOU MAY HAVE TO WASH ONE OF YOUR BRUSHES. AND TIEG INTO A LITTLE BLUE AND THIS IS PRUSSIAN BLUE AND THIS OTHER BLUE MIXED TOGETHER AND I DON'T WANT TO DROP IN THE WHOLE SKY.

I WANT AREAS OF BLUE.

I AM GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF CLOUDS IN THE SKY TODAY AND LEAVING THE WHITE AREAS AND NOT PAINTING THE ENTIRE AREA BLUE.

I WANT TO LEAVE THIS PART DARKER THAN THE BOTTOM AND WITH THE SAME BRUSH I WILL GO THROUGH A LITTLE BLACK BUT NOT MUCH AND WANT TO ADD SOME GRAY SHADOWS HERE.

I SAID THERE WAS GOING TO BE SOME CLOUDS SO I WANTED SHADOWS IN THE SKY.

THERE WE GO.

DROP THEM IN.

IT'S THAT EASY.

THE NEXT STEP I WANT TO DO IS BLEND OUT THIS SKY.

I HAVE GRABBED ANOTHER CLEAN 2" BRUSH, AND I'M GOING TO START AT THE BOTTOM AND GENTLY, GENTLY WORK THIS PAINT AROUND ON THE CANVAS. NOW I'VE CHANGED TO A 1" BRUSH AND I'M GOING TO PULL IT THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF WHITE PAINT.

I'M PULLING IT THROUGH IN ONE DIRECTION ROUNDING THE TOP CORNER AND WITH THAT I WANT TO DROP IN SOME LARGE PUFFY CLOUDS. REMEMBER I LEFT SOME OF THE WHITE UP THERE, SO I'M GOING TO USE THAT TO MY ADVANTAGE.

THERE WE GO.

DROP THEM IN.

I AM USING TINY CIRCLES OF THAT BRUSH.

I AM WORRIED ONLY ABOUT THE OUTSIDE SHAPE.

I WANT A VERY PLEASANT ROLLING CLOUD SHAPE. YOU SEE ALL THE DARK AREA YOU PUT IN THERE.

THAT WILL LOOK LIKE SHADOWS.

THERE WE GO. REMEMBER TO MAKE LAYERS IN YOUR CLOUDS BECAUSE BY ADDING LAYERS ONE CLOUD ON TOP OF ANOTHER IT WILL GIVE YOU A LOT OF DEPTH AND I LIKE DEPTH IN MY PAINTINGS. I TRY TO CREATE AS MUCH OF IT AS POSSIBLE.

I WILL SKIP DOWN. THERE IS ANOTHER CLOUD RIGHT THERE.

DROP THEM IN.

WITH A CLEAN 2" BRUSH WE CAN COME UP HERE AND BLEND.

I WANT TO BLEND OUT THE BOTTOM OF THESE CLOUDS AND I AM USING ONLY THE TOP OF THE BRUSH.

IT'S A LARGE BRUSH BUT I'M NOT USING IT ALL AND I AM LOOKING TO DESTROY THE BOTTOM EDGE, MAKE IT TOTALLY DISAPPEAR INTO THE REST OF THE SKY BUT DON'T TOUCH THE TOP YET BECAUSE I WANT THEM TO BE VERY DISTINCT.

ONLY BLEND OUT THE BOTTOM VERY LIGHTLY.

THE NEXT THING WE'RE GOING TO DO IS MAKE A NICE MOUNTAIN SO FOR THAT PERHAPS SOME BLACK, SOME VAN DYKE BROWN, A LITTLE BIT OF DARK SIENNA, AND MIX THEM TOGETHER JUST A LITTLE, AND I'M GOING TO CUT ACROSS AND GET A LITTLE ROLL OF PAINT ON THE KNIFE, AND NOW I WANT TO MAKE MY MOUNTAIN RIGHT HERE.

YOU CAN SEE HOW THAT DARK MOUNTAIN HAS A LOT OF CONTRAST AGAINST THAT LIGHT SKY. THAT REALLY LOOKS NICE.

I LIKE THAT. MAYBE WE WANT A GLACIER TODAY SO I WANT THE MOUNTAIN TO RUN LIKE THAT AND MAKE ANOTHER MOUNTAIN THAT COMES IN LIKE THAT.

I THINK THAT WILL LOOK NICE. DROP THEM IN.

I AM SCRAPING THE CANVAS VERY HARD BECAUSE I WANT TO REMOVE A LOT OF THIS PAINT.

I A THIN LAYER ONLY, NICE EVEN LAYER UP HERE, BUT I STILL WANT THE MOUNTAIN DARK SO I AM NOT SCAPING IT AWAY TOTALLY. THERE YOU GO.

KIND OF FILL IT IN A LITTLE.

I WANT TO MAKE THIS MOUNTAIN A LITTLE BIT TALLER AND MAYBE A LITTLE MORE JAGGED.

I WAS LOOKING AT THEM AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD LOOK MUCH NICER TO HAVE THIS LITTLE MORE JAGGED.

NOW I'M GOING TO GO TO A 2" BRUSH.

THIS ONE ISN'T VERY CLEAN.

IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER.

I'M GOING TO BLEND OUT THIS MATTER.

I AM GRABBING IT OUT AT THE TOP AND PULL IT DOWN. WHAT THIS WILL DO IS MIX WITH WHITE AND YOU SEE ALREADY I HAVE A MISTY EFFECT DOWN TOWARDS THE BOTTOM AND IT'S VERY NICE.

I LIKE THAT A LOT.

NOW I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO HIGHLIGHT THIS MOUNTAIN.

I'M GOING TO TAKE SOME DARK SIENNA AND WHITE. I'M GOING TO MIX THEM TOGETHER AND THERE IS THE BASE COLOR OF THE MOUNTAIN.

LOOK AT THE COLOR VARIATIONS IN THERE.

I WANT TO LEAVE THEM.

DON'T OVER MIX AND YOU CAN SEE ALL THE COLOR VARIATIONS IN THERE AND I'M HIGHLIGHTING THIS MOUNTAIN VERY LIGHTLY.

THE KEY HERE IS NO PRESSURE AT ALL BECAUSE I WANT ALL THIS BREAKING IN THE PAINT. YOU CAN EVEN ADD A LITTLE BIT MORE WHITE IF YOU WANT TO LIGHTEN IT UP IN AREAS, KIND OF CHANGE IT UP ADD AN EXTRA HIGHLIGHT AND DON'T RUSH THE MOUNTAIN.

TAKE YOUR TIME.

MAKE IT LOOK THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO LOOK.

YOU CAN SEE I REALLY ENJOY ALL THOSE DIFFERENT COLORS YOU GET IN THE MOUNTAIN SIMPLY BY NOT OVER MIXING YOUR PAINT.

THERE WE GO. NOW MAYBE THIS PEAK NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF HIGHLIGHT. ANYWHERE YOU HAVE A PEAK THAT IS STANDING UP AND YOU THINK HIGHLIGHT WOULD LOOK GOOD THERE, THE LIGHT WOULD CATCH IT, DROP IT IN. THERE WE GO.

MAYBE WE WANT TO BRING THIS MOUNTAIN OUT LIKE THAT.

SEE I REALLY HAVEN'T PLANNED THIS MOUNTAIN OUT. KIND OF MAKING IT UP AS I GO ALONG LETTING ALL THESE THINGS HAPPEN. NOW I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HO TO PUT SOME SHADOW ON THE MOUNTAIN SO FOR THAT TAKE SOME BLACK AND SOME DARK SIENNA AND MIX THEM TOGETHER LOOSELY.

I WANT BOTH COLORS IN THERE.

THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH AND PICK OUT AN AREA. MAYBE WE WILL START HERE AND ADD SOME OF THE DARK VALUE IN THERE.

ONCE AGAIN EXTREMELY LIGHT PRESSURE BECAUSE I WANT ALL THIS BREAKING IN THERE.

MAYBE UP HERE WE NEED SOME.

THERE WE GO.

THIS SIDE WAS ALREADY PRETTY DARK SO WE DON'T NEED TOO MUCH BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A LITTLE BUT LOOK AT THE CONTRAST.

THAT'S WHAT I WANT YOU TO SEE.

ALL THAT LIGHT AGAINST DARK.

THAT IS CONTRAST AND IT REALLY MAKES YOUR PAINTINGS LOOK NICE SO TRY TO GET A LOT OF THAT CONTRAST IN.

I THINK YOU WILL REALLY ENJOY T NOW I'M GOING TO MIX UP SOME OF THE ORIGINAL HIGHLIGHTS WITH SOME OF THAT SHADOW COLOR AND YOU GET A MEDIUM VALUE JUST LIKE THAT AND I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY LOAD THE SIDE OF THE KNIFE, THE SMALL SIDE, AND I WANT TO DROP IN A LITTLE BIT OF THAT COLOR RIGHT AROUND HERE.

MAYBE LET'S MAKE THIS AREA REALLY DARK IN HERE LIKE THAT, AND THEN AS IT COMES OUT A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT CATCHES IT SO WE CAN DO THAT. NOW, I WILL TAKE A LITTLE PRUSSIAN BLUE AND A LITTLE BIT OF VALO BLUE AND ADD TO THAT ALIZARIN CRIMSON AND WE WILL MIX THAT TOGETHER.

THAT LOOKS BLACK SO I WILL ADD SOME WHITE TO IT AND YOU KIND OF HAVE TO ADD MORE BLUE OR RED DEPENDING WHETHER YOU WANT IT TO BE PURPLE OR OFF BLUE AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR, AN OFF BLUE, AND WITH THAT WE CAN DROP IN SOME SHADOWS, MAYBE LIGHTEN THAT A LITTLE BUT I SAID I WANTED A GLACIER DOWN HERE AND THIS IS THE SHADOW OF THE SNOW, THE DARK PART OF THE SNOW.

WORK THE COLORS BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE

DARK AND LIGHT AND A LOT OF COLOR VARIATIONS HAPPENS.

IT'S COMING OFF THE MOUNTAIN.

MAYBE IT'S MELTING AND COLLECTING AT THE BOTTOM AND YOU CAN RUB IN SOME COLOR WITH THE KNIFE.

WE'RE NOT TOO WORRIED AND MOST IS COVERED UP.

NOW I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT MY MOUNTAIN SO I WILL GRAB A LITTLE WHITE ON THE KNIFE AND LOOK AT THIS.

ADD SOME SNOW RIGHT DOWN HERE.

VERY, VERY LIGHTLY DROP IT IN, JUST A LITTLE.

YOU DON'T NEED MUCH AND LOOK LET SOME OF THE BLUE SHOW THROUGH.

IT'S ALL THAT NICE SHADOW IN THERE. IT MAKES THE SNOW LOOK MORE THREE DIMENSIONAL THAN IT WOULD OTHERWISE.

MAYBE IT COMES IN LIKE THAT.

THE KEY HERE IS TO HAVE A LIGHT PRESSURE.

NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THIS SNOW HERE IS TO THINK ABOUT THE WAY YOUR GLACIER IS IN THERE, THE WAY IT'S LYING IN THERE BECAUSE THE SNOW IS GOING DOWN AND GOING TO COLLECT.

THINK ABOUT MAYBE A BOWL OR A CUP THAT WOULD HOLD ALL OF THIS AND THAT'S THE ANGLES YOU NEED.

DROP THEM IN. LET'S

MIX UP COLORS FOR THE BACKGROUND TREES AND TAKE ALIZARIN CRIMSON AND DARK SIENNA AND SAP GREEN AND MIX THESE TOGETHER AND A LITTLE MORE GREEN AND THESE ARE FAR AWAY BACKGROUND TREES SO I DON'T WANT THEM THAT DARK SO TAKE A LITTLE OF THAT COLOR AND SET IT OVER HERE AND ADD SOME WHITE. MIX THE WHITE UP.

A LITTLE BIT MORE GREEN.

THERE WE GO.

SO I WANT A COLOR THAT LOOKS LIKE THAT.

AND NOW I'M GOING TO LOAD A 1" BRUSH.

I'M GOING TO TAP IT INTO A LITTLE BIT OF THAT COLOR. NOW, MAYBE WE WANT SOME TREES RIGHT HERE.

THAT'S VERY EASY. WHEN YOU TAP IN THESE TREES IT'S NICE TO FOCUS ON THE TOP OF THE TREE, NOT SO MUCH ON THE BOTTOM BECAUSE WE WILL COVER THE BOTTOM UP WITH GRASS.

JUST TAP IN A NICE SOFT TREE SHAPE.

WE WILL JUST FINISH UP THIS SIDE BY ADDING SOME OF THE SAME TREES. THERE YOU GO.

TAP THEM RIGHT IN.

NOW I WILL TAKE A FAN BRUSH AND LOAD IT UP WITH A LITTLE BIT OF THAT BROWN AND GREEN, AND I WANT A COUPLE OF DISTANT EVERGREEN TREES SO I WILL TAP IN, GIVE MYSELF A LINE, AND USE A CORNER OF THE BRUSH AND GENTLY WORK THEM BACK AND FORTH TO DROP IN THE BASIC SHAPE.

CAN YOU EVEN TAP JUST TO GIVE THE INDICATION OR SUGGESTION OF TREETOPS.

WOE DON'T SEE MUCH DETAIL THERE. NOW I WILL GO BACK TO A 2" BRUSH AND TAP IT THROUGH SOME OF THE PURE COLOR NOW, NO WHITE ADDED, AND WE CAN DROP IN SOME LAND HERE, SOME GRASS.

LOOK HOW MUCH DARKER THAT IS JUST BECAUSE WE DIDN'T ADD IN ANY WHITE.

IT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE IT'S CLOSER THERE WE GO.

FOLLOW THE LAY OF THE LAND.

WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS MY LAND IS GOING TO BE SLOPING DOWN.

I'M GOING TO HAVE SOME WATER HERE SO THINK ABOUT THAT AND AS YOU PAINT THE WATER IS GOING TO FLOW DOWN TO THE LOWEST POINT, SO WE WILL JUST TAP THE GRASS IN LIKE THAT. HAVE IT RUNOFF ABOUT THERE.

BEFORE WE GO TOO FAR I WANT TO ADD A LITTLE BIT OF BLUE.

THIS IS VALA BLUE AND PRUSSIAN BLUE AND ON THE 1" BRUSH.

I WANT TO ADD IN SOME WATER SO I WILL PULL IN FROM THE SIDES LIKE THIS. START AT THE BOTTOM AND WORK UP AND THEN YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY HAVE THE WATER LIGHTER AS IT COMES UP TOWARD THE HORIZON.

DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU PICK UP SOME OF THE GREEN BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOME REFLECTIONS ANYWAY. DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL AND LIGHTLY BLEND ACROSS.

WITH A 2" BRUSH WE CAN GRAB THE BOTTOM OF THAT GRASS AND PULL DOWN.

WHAT THIS IS GOING TO DO IS CREATE NICE REFLECTIONS.

IT'S IMPORTANT THOUGH THAT YOU PULL STRAIGHT DOWN.

NOW LOOK AT THIS LAND. IT COMES IN AND BACK UP.

THAT'S KIND OF NICE.

IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

LIGHTLY BLEND ACROSS.

THERE WE GO VERY LIGHTLY. WITH THE 1" BRUSH AND SOME SAP GREEN AND CADMIUM YELLOW, MAYBE SOME YELLOW OCHRE I'M GOING TO TAP THE BRUSH ONCE AGAIN, AND I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO HIGHLIGHT THESE TREES.

I'M GOING TO USE THE TOP CORNER AND DROP A TINIEST BIT OF HIGHLIGHT ON. IF IT'S NOT STICKING GRAB A LITTLE BIT OF WHITE.

THAT'S THE ORIGINAL THIN WHITE BASE COAT. THAT WILL THIN THE PAINT DOWN SO IT WILL STICK BECAUSE A THIN PAINT WILL STICK ON TOP OF THE THICK PAINT WE HAVE DOWN HERE. IF YOU'RE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE LAYERS GETTING THEM TO

STICK THEM IN AND THE PAINT THINNER OR THE WHITE.

DON'T NEED TOO MUCH.

NOW I WILL TAKE A 2" BRUSH AND TAP IT THROUGH THE SAME COLOR AND LET'S HIGHLIGHT THIS GRASS.

NOW TO HIGHLIGHT THE GRASS WE CAN VERY, VERY LIGHTLY TAP.

THAT'S THE BEST WAY.

JUST COME IN HERE AND GIVE IT A LITTLE TAP, A LITTLE PUSH.

IF THE PAINT DOESN'T WANT TO COME OFF DON'T PUSH HARDER. IT'S A GOOD WAY TO

MIX IT WITH THE BASE COAT AND USE THE PAINT THINNER AND LOOK AT THIS.

SEE THE DARK AREAS I LEFT IN THERE. THAT MADE IT LOOK LIKE ROLLING HILLS OR AREAS WHERE IT DIPS DOWN.

IT GIVES YOUR PAINTING A LOT MORE DEPTH.

MAKES IT LOOK MORE REAL.

JUST FILL IN THE REST OF THIS GRASS RIGHT OVER HERE.

YOU CAN GRAB THAT COLOR AND REFLECT IT DOWN.

BACK TO CLEAN BRUSH.

AND BLEND LIGHTLY ACROSS.

I'VE ADDED A LITTLE BIT MORE WHITE TO THAT COLOR AND LOOK AT THIS.

TAP ON A LITTLE SPARKLE HIGHLIGHT.

BOY THAT REALLY -- THAT REALLY MAKES IT LOOK MORE DETAILED WITHOUT DOING MUCH, THE TINIEST BIT, BUT DON'T OVER DO.

JUST A LITTLE BIT AND LEAVE IT ALONE.

WITH THE 1" BRUSH LET'S DO SOME OF THE SAME COLOR THAT WE WERE USING AND THE BROWN AND GREEN AND BLACK AND I WANT TO TAP IN A LITTLE BIT OF LAND, MAYBE A PENINSULA THAT COMES OUT LIKE THAT. NEEDS TO BE VERY DARK.

SO JUST SMASH IN SOME DARK COLOR.

WE WILL COME BACK AND HIGHLIGHT IT AND MAKE IT LOOK NICE JUST LIKE WE DID UP THERE.

AND WHILE WE'RE WORKING ON THAT LET'S DO ANOTHER ONE.

I THINK THESE LOOK REALLY COOL.

MAYBE THAT ONE DROPS DOWN LIKE THAT.

SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF A RIVER COMING THAT WAY AND THERE'S A FORK IN THE RIVER MAYBE.

WITH SOME VAN DYKE BROWN ON THE KNIFE WE CAN DROP IN SOME ROCKS.

THIS IS VERY, VERY SIMILAR TO THE MOUNTAIN. I'M JUST GRABBING A LITTLE BIT OF THERE AND PULLING DOWN STARTING AT THE TOP AND PULLING DOWN BECAUSE I WANT THE WATER OF COURSE TO GO DOWN TO THE LOW POINT.

THAT'S THE EASIEST WAY TO GET THAT EFFECT.

THERE'S SOME ROCKS RIGHT THERE.

RIGHT NOW THAT IS BLOCKING IN THE DARK PART.

WE WILL DETAIL IT OUT AND MAKE IT LOOK NICE IN JUST A SECOND BUT FOR NOW WE JUST NEED THE DARK AND WE ALSO NEED THE TEXTURE.

I LIKE HAVING THE TEXTURE IN MY ROCKS.

THERE WE GO. WITH A LITTLE BIT OF BROWN AND WHITE HERE'S THE EXCITING PART.

LET'S HIGHLIGHT VERY LIGHT TOUCH JUST LIKE THE MOUNTAIN. AND REMEMBER TO SAVE SOME OF THE DARK IN YOUR ROCKS.

SEE ALL OF THAT IN THERE.

IT MAKES THEM LOOK NICE AND ROUGH.

MUCH BETTER THAN IF YOU COME HERE AND HIGHLIGHT THEM SOLID.

THEY WON'T LOOK AS NICE.

HERE'S A LITTLE BIT ON THIS BANK. REMEMBER TO PULL IT DOWN REMEMBERING THE ANGLES.

BACK TO THE 2" BRUSH AND I WANT TO ADD SOME REFLECTIONS IN THE WATER HERE. GRAB A LITTLE BIT OF THAT ROCK COLOR AND PULL STRAIGHT DOWN, AND WIPE THE BRUSH ON A PAPER TOWEL AND LIGHTLY COME ACROSS VERY, VERY LIGHTLY.

YOU DON'T WANT TO DESTROY IT ALL.

WITH THE 2" BRUSH WE WILL TAP IT THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF YELLOW.

THIS IS MOSTLY CADMIUM YELLOW WITH A LITTLE BIT OF YELLOW OCHRE AND A LITTLE INDIAN YELLOW MIXED IN.

I WILL VARY THE YELLOWS BACK AND FORTH SO YOU HAVE ALL SORTS OF THINGS HAPPENING IN HERE.

WHAT I AM GOING TO DO IS HIGHLIGHT THE GRASS REALLY THE SAME WAY AS BEFORE BUT I WANT A RIDGE RIGHT THERE.

THERE IS A RIDGE.

NOTICING HOW I AM COVERING UP INTENTIONALLY SOME OF THE ROCKS.

IT PUSHES THEM BACK INTO THE

PAINTING.

MAYBE WE WILL ADD SOME ROCK THERE IS AND LET'S ADD THE HIGHLIGHT AND WHITE TO THE COLOR AND RIGHT THERE AND PICK OUT AREAS THAT YOU WANT TO BE BRIGHT AND DROP SOME HIGHLIGHT ON.

THERE IS A LITTLE MORE.

LOOK AT THAT. LOOK AT THE CONTRAST YOU GET LIGHT AGAINST DARK, SO IMPORTANT, AND DON'T OVER DO.

HERE AND THERE AND THEN LEAVE IT ALONE.

NOW I'M GOING TO MIX UP A NICE DARK COLOR FOR OUR PINE TREES SO I'M GOING TO MIX UP SOME BLACK, SOME BLUE, AND SOME ALIZARIN CRIMSON AND SAP GREEN.

WE WILL MIX THOSE TOGETHER.

I AM LOOKING FOR A VERY, VERY DARK COLOR AND THEN WE'LL LOAD UP THE FAN BRUSH.

I WILL START BY WORKING THE FAN BRUSH BRUSH BACK AND FORTH.

THIS IS VERY DARK, MAYBE EVEN HARD TO SEE.

THERE YOU GO.

YOU CAN SEE IT THERE AGAINST THAT LIGHT.

BUT I NEED THE DARK IN THERE FOR THE CONTRAST. I'M GOING TO HIGHLIGHT THESE TREES AND MAKE THEM STAND OUT FOR NOW I WANT THEM NICE AND DARK. MAYBE THERE IS ONE RIGHT THERE. USE THE CORNER OF THE BRUSH, WORK BACK AND FORTH.

THERE WE GO. THINK ABOUT THE LIMBS AS YOU MAKE THEM.

DON'T JUST COME UP HERE AND START TAPPING AND HOPING YOU WILL GET A PINE TREE. YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE BASIC SHAPE, ALL OF THE LIMBS. NOW I DECIDED THIS PINE TREE SHOULD BE A LITTLE TALLER SO THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PAINTING AS YOU GO. YOU'RE NOT COMMITTED.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING YOU CAN IMPROVE IT VERY EASILY.

THERE WE GO.

TAP IT RIGHT IN.

SEE I THINK THAT LOOKS BETTER USING THE CORNER OF THE BRUSH TO TAP IT IN AND LET'S GO TO HIGHLIGHT COLOR WITH A CLEAN FAN BRUSH. YOU MAY HAVE TO WASH YOURS.

THAT'S OKAY.

I HAVE A CLEAN ONE AND NOW WE CAN ADD A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT ON TO THE LIMBS.

YOU CAN SEE WHY I WANTED THE DARK IN THERE.

NOW THE HIGHLIGHT REALLY SHINES.

YOU CAN SEE IT EASILY.

LET'S HIGHLIGHT DOWN THERE SO PICK A CORNER OF THE FAN BRUSH AND GENTLY WORK IT BACK AND FORTH.

SEE THAT.

REALLY YOUR TREES WILL BECOME THREE DIMENSIONAL IN JUST A MINUTE. NOW, I WILL TAP THE 1" BRUSH INTO A LITTLE DARK GREEN AND BLACK MOSTLY AND I WANT TO ADD SOME BUSHES DOWN HERE.

MAYBE WE WANT SOME ON THAT SIDE AND MORE COLOR.

THESE ARE LARGER. TAP THOSE RIGHT IN.

A LITTLE BIT LARGER.

THERE WE GO.

WE STILL SEE THE WATER BEHIND THEM. WITH THAT SAME HIGHLIGHT COLOR ON THE 1" BRUSH WE CAN DROP ON SOME HIGHLIGHT TO THESE BUSHES HERE.

NOW THE LIGHT IS COMING IN IN THIS DIRECTION AND I WANT IT NICE AND DARK OVER HERE. THAT CREATES A LOT OF SHADOWS AND CONTRAST IN THE PAINTING SO THINK ABOUT THAT AS YOU'RE HIGHLIGHTING THESE BUSHES. LET'S ADD SOME EXTRA HIGHLIGHT HERE. REMEMBER YOU JUST TAP IT ON LIGHTLY, VERY SIMILAR TO THE GRASS, VERY LIGHTLY.

DON'T OVER DO BECAUSE YOU KIND OF LOSE IT.

IF IT'S ALL LIGHT IT'S NOT VERY EFFECTIVE, ONLY A LITTLE. IN FACT SEE THIS TREE BACK HERE -- LET ME LOAD A LITTLE MORE COLOR ON THAT BRUSH.

HE NEEDS A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT TOO.

CAN YOU USE THE 1" BRUSH TO HIGHLIGHT THESE PINE TREES IF YOU WANT. NOW WE CAN JUMP OVER TO THESE BUSHES, ADD A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT ON THEM.

THERE WE GO.

LEAVE THAT DARK.

SEE ALL THE DARK IN THERE.

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT. I WANT TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING PRETTY COOL.

DO YOU SEE HOW THIS KIND OF REPETITIVE?

WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THIS IS THAT YOU CAN CHANGE IT.

LOOK AT THAT.

I'M GOING TO LIFT THE HUMP UP AND NOW IT CHANGES IT UP A LITTLE BIT.

SPARKLING WHITE HIGHLIGHT. SEE THAT.

YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT ON YOUR PAINTING.

IF YOU'RE NOT HAPPY WITH IT CHANGE IT.

IT'S VERY EASY.

WITH A LITTLE ROLL OF WHITE ON THE KNIFE WE CAN RUB IN A FEW REFLECTIONS OF LIGHT ON THE WATER.

NOT TOO MUCH BACK HERE, VERY LITTLE.

MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THESE IS THAT THEY'RE VERY FLAT, AS FLAT AS YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET THEM.

MAYBE RIGHT HERE THERE'S SOME.

SEE HOW IT MAKES THE WATER LOOK WET.

JUST A LITTLE.

NOW WE WILL TAKE A CLEAN KNIFE, NO PAINT ON IT AT ALL.

I'M GOING TO SCRATCH THROUGH AND LET SOME OF THE WHITE CANVAS SHOW THROUGH.

ONLY IN THE DARK AREAS.

THIS WILL GIVE YOU SOME VERY NICE THICK INDICATIONS TO WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. ALL RIGHT.

I THINK WE HAVE A FINISHED PAINTING.

ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS SIGN IT. ALL RIGHT.

WELL I THINK WE'RE DONE.
